To Mini Spool or Not to Mini Spool

You don't think so? Well it might not but then again it might the tighter the turn (like in a parking lot) the more bind it puts on the axles. Its common knowledge that you should have strong axle shafts when running a spool because of that. I wouldn't consider stock 28 spline axles strong.Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostI know how it works. I've had a spool in my DD for 20K+ miles with 27 spline shafts. I must be lucky...Originally posted by mtuggle86 View PostYou don't think so? You are some people get away with it others break axle shafts. Just because you DD for 20k+ miles doesn't mean its smart. Alot of people don't have problems with there 10 bolts does that mean there a strong rear end too...Originally posted by c0ncEpT View PostI've had a spool in my DD for 20K+ miles with 27 spline shafts. Also my cousin shifted his 98 ss with a F14 cam at 7200rpms for 5 years on stock rod bolts it held up great. Until he stretched a stock rod bolt one day and spun a rod bearing. I think you see my point.Last edited by mtuggle86; April 20th, 2011, 03:34 PM.01 NBM Base SS build #514 M6 Pat G/EPS 230/234 111+4 Cam, LS2 Heads, Tick Master,Extreme Chassis 8.8 with 4.30's, BMR LCA And Torque Arm, Edelbrock PHB, FIPK intake, Ported TB. Alright, I think I've made my decision. Screw the 10 bolt! lol
This:

Plus this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=390285827368
Plus gears and a carrier of some sort = never have to worry about it again. eBay gave me a 10% off automotive coupon that I've been itching to use which will work nicely for the housing. I will nab the housing now with expectations of completing the rear before the end of the season.
Thanks for the input everyone. After running the numbers on "beefing up" a 10 bolt, it would suck to lose $1000 in something that was destined to fail to begin with.

Looks good but you should read up on the quick performance housing Ive heard some people say there good and others say there not.Originally posted by Emulsifide View PostAlright, I think I've made my decision. Screw the 10 bolt! lol

I've gone through and read the 200+ post thread on ls1tech about it previously and now. All the negative is hearsay relative to the steal of a complete rear end you can buy from Midwest Chassis. Given the investment I already have in a torque arm and relocation kit, I don't need their over the top setup. Not to mention I'm not looking to go anywhere near as fast as the MWC housing can handle.Originally posted by mtuggle86 View PostLooks good but you should read up on the quick performance housing Ive heard some people say there good and others say there not.
I can't find a single quick performance housing breaking. Have you seen something specifically?

No Ive just seen a few posts saying the moser housing might be a bit better. If you've read that its good though I wouldn't worry about it.Originally posted by Emulsifide View PostI've gone through and read the 200+ post thread on ls1tech about it previously and now. That's true some people do complain about moser. Im not saying the quick performance housing is bad I just said make sure to read up on it because I've read some mixed reviews about them. Also im sure there's many more moser housing running around so there's bound to be some neg reviews on them.Originally posted by DETROITMUSCLE View PostI've read several posts where people complain about the Moser housing as well.Last edited by mtuggle86; April 27th, 2011, 04:57 PM.01 NBM Base SS build #514 M6 Pat G/EPS 230/234 111+4 Cam, LS2 Heads, Tick Master,Extreme Chassis 8.8 with 4.30's, BMR LCA And Torque Arm, Edelbrock PHB, FIPK intake, Ported TB.
