I have got a heavy ticking coming from the bottom end on my ls1. ive been told its piston slap but im not sure. it gets quieter once it warms up, but i can still hear it even then, and it speeds up the higher the rpms go. any idea on what i can do to fix it? because i wanna get some work done, but i dont know if i have to replace the block or what. can it be bored and put tighter fitting pistons and rings in it? any help would be greatly appreciated!

To fix it you have to tear down the engine and mic out the cylinder walls and pistons. If its the piston skirts they can be replaced without a bore and new pistons. Usually the fix is a bore and new pistons though, because the slapping around causes egg shaped cylinder walls. It will eventually get worst especially if you drive and start in real cold weather.sigpic

Try a good oil 10w-30 and a good filter with the proper anti-drainback valve to monitor the noise level change if any. What are the miles and mods? I believe you have the common "piston-slap" and it causes no harm, after warm-up being less is usually that.sigpicMODS: SLP DUAL/DUAL EXHAUST, 160 STAT, MTI LID, SHANER S3 T.B., SMOOTH BELLOWS, DESCREENED MAF, TUNNEL BRACE, UMI SFC & PHB, STRANO SWAY BARS, DRILLED/SLOTTED ROTORS, WHISTLER LIGHTS, BLACK BILLET GRILLE w/69'SS EMBLEM, BLACK SMOOTHED TAIL PANEL w/69'SS EMBLEM, BLACK SS HOOD INSERT, INTIMIDATOR SS WHEELS.
