  • clutch swap parts Q's

ok so i already bought my new clutch and its sitting in my garage, went with Competition Clutch, but what other parts should i replace while im in there?? also should i have the flywheel resurfaced, im sure i wont know untill i see what condition its in. pretty new to the t56's. any help would be awesome!! this is for a LT1 T56 if that matters. car has 93k on it and im unsure if the trans parts are stock or have been replaced. the trans shift awesome, clutch pedal feels fine, just the clutch slips when cold and also slips at WOT when warm. so what other parts should i replace other than the clutch? or should i leave it alone since it shifts great and just throw in the new clutch? any help will be greatly appreciated!!! i have posted on 2 other forums but no one has responded
    . Thanks - Levi

The clutch should include pressure plate and friction disk. On top of that, it is a good idea to replace the slave cylinder, throwout bearing, flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, and pilot bearing. Basically, if you are going to be pulling the trans on a 90k mile car, replace everything inside there so that you won't have to pull it for another 90k miles. Oh, and you definitly need to get the flywheel resurfaced. Best place is your local machine shop.

Negative. What you are referring to is on some 98-00 cars people have problems with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor on high rpm shifts. This is fixed by buying a new master (all replacement parts are 01+) and doing the drill mod, however your LT1 master should be fine.

Luckily the pilot bearing, flywheel, PP bolts are fairly cheap, but the slave is a bit expensive. But its a better idea to do it now, rather than a month after you put your new clutch in it fails and you have to drop the trans again.

Flywheel bolts are 3 each, costs will add up quick.

                  What kit did you get?

I just got a new flywheel, it's 50 bucks at the part store. Be careful with the slave, it's easy to break.

Use a pilot bushing instead of a pilot bearing, bring a magnet to the store to make sure it's brass.

                    Used to own a Firebird.
