  • Problems getting bellhousing off.

Been prying at it for an hour. Are there any tricks to getting the bellhousing off of the engine or do I just keep prying? LS1 and T56 bellhousing...

    Used to own a Firebird.

Had to use a slide hammer the first time I took mine off...the dowels were stuck in there good.

Hmm. I just got a slide hammer but the threads on the rod are too big.

You could also try to put tension on it using a come-along or racthet strap and then keep tapping it with a hammer, apply more tension, tap some more, etc. I dont reccomend prying between the alum block and alum bellhousing

Yea its a ***** to get off.. I got mine off by prying it out a lil and then tapping it back on and eventually it came off. I also don't recommend prying between the block and bell housing but I did and was very careful on how I did it. I then used antiseeze on the locating pins for easier removal.

Should have came with an cone attachment that you slide a bolt through and then thread on to the rod

remove all bolts then use prybar. it has notches for the prybar to fit in.
antiseize the dowels- metal to alum = stuck

Ended up wiggling it for a while, took the cover off on the driver's side and got it popped off prying between the block and bellhousing. It's off now and I'm working on replacing the master cylinder. Old pressure plate and flywheel were pretty blue...kinda look like a peacock's tail.

Yeah but your block is iron.

Dowels stay in the engine. Both have steel Dowels alum bells
