  • Rattling problem :(

as i showed a couple of you guys out at woodward last night, my car is making rattling sound at idle. it seems to be coming from the bellhousing/tranny area as it is audible from both the outside of the car and the inside (through the shifter i imagine).

It was suggested to me that it sounds like a throwout bearing going bad. can anyone confirm or deny? it has been slowly getting worse since mid july... and i dont drive the car much. im going to try and take a video of it later to post, but i cant right now.

im really hoping its something else though. I replaced the throwout bearing when i replaced the clutch 3500 miles ago. I wouldnt be surprised if the SPEC throwout bearing is a total pile of ass and Im going to have to completely tear my driveline apart to fix it Ive also done some research on it on cz28. apparently this rattle is normal for some cars. eff that though, this rattle makes my otherwise primo car sound like a total pile of crap

if its the throw out bearing it will change or go away as you very lightly apply the clutch pedal
Pilot bearing will make noise with the clutch pushed in

The throw out bearing is being used when you disengage the clutch (press the pedal down), so if it is the bearing it should get louder when you hold the pedal down to disengage the clutch because it will be turning. In my experience if memory serves, the throw out bearing shouldn't even be turning in gear or at idle in neutral with the clutch engaged (pedal out/not pressed). With the clutch engaged it should slide back out of the way on the pipe/housing around the input shaft on the tranny. So I would tend to think its not the bearing first. Is there an inspection cover? If so first thing I would do is pull that and check my bolts holding the clutch to the flywheel, make sure they were tight and try to get a visual on the bearing too. Would make sense that in gear if they are a little loose, there is pressure holding the assembly in one position. But disengaged the assembly is loose and can move a little. Not saying it isn't the throw out bearing, but doesn't quite add up to me. Or, it could be something completely different. Just throwing out ideas.

thanks for the ideas everyone, but i took it over to my cousins house today and threw it on the hoist. thankfully its nothing to do with my throwout bearing, its one of my cats. something is loose on the inside and rattling around in there. i probably have less than 1k miles on these cats too ugh.
