At low speeds, after driving the car for some time, forward or reverse, I hear clunking, almost tinging noise from rear, and then goes away when I accelerate. I do have limited slip. It almost sounds like the driveshaft is dragging on the concrete. Does not happen all of the time. Mainly when I come off the highway... Any ideas?

I added it to mine when I changed the fluid - read a lot of write-ups and threads on the subject. Most people said you don't NEED it, but it can't hurt. I used it along with Royal Purple gear oil.Originally posted by JRP5985 View Postis there a limited slip diff additive that needs to be added? Im at 75,000 and rear fluid level is ok, should I change it?
Sorry, can't help you with where the sound is coming from though2000 Trans Am l 1967 Firebird

I'd grab a pair of jackstands, put the rear end up in the air and have someone listen to it while the rear end slowly rotates.
Does it do it on corners?
When I trashed the spider gears in my carrier, it sounded like a driveshaft grinding itself to bits.
Popping the cover and changing the fluid isn't a bad idea.
I just bought a gasket for $4.00, and fluid isn't all that awful for replacement. Better to catch it now rather than wait for something to let loose.Last edited by TrickyTransAm; February 20th, 2011, 12:24 PM.
