  • Rear end noise, need some help!

At low speeds, after driving the car for some time, forward or reverse, I hear clunking, almost tinging noise from rear, and then goes away when I accelerate. I do have limited slip. It almost sounds like the driveshaft is dragging on the concrete. Does not happen all of the time. Mainly when I come off the highway... Any ideas?

Check your trans and torque arm mounts.

    Used to own a Firebird.

Mine usually makes a "ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPT". And with that, I can not help you.

I added it to mine when I changed the fluid - read a lot of write-ups and threads on the subject. Most people said you don't NEED it, but it can't hurt. I used it along with Royal Purple gear oil.

Sorry, can't help you with where the sound is coming from though

Could it be coming from the brakes?

possibly? Not sure what would be making that nasty noise though.

bent axle or bad bearing? mine did it and sounded like a brake caliper was hanging up as the bent axle went around. does it sound like its coming from one side or the other or right in the middle?

I'd grab a pair of jackstands, put the rear end up in the air and have someone listen to it while the rear end slowly rotates.
Does it do it on corners?
When I trashed the spider gears in my carrier, it sounded like a driveshaft grinding itself to bits.

Popping the cover and changing the fluid isn't a bad idea.
I just bought a gasket for $4.00, and fluid isn't all that awful for replacement. Better to catch it now rather than wait for something to let loose.

Ok... so shifting from reverse to drive sounds slightly rough. When I rock the car in park I hear a little pop and small grind, withal hair more than usual of play. Wtf?
