Im trying to calculate strokes, rodlengths, valve lifts without any clue what im doing in order to try to make a unique engine build. so does anyone know any formulas on how to figure out max lift and how to figure out what setup can work for an engine withought having the piston going over deck hight

your best bet would be to talk to an engine builder - they know all that stuff off the top of their head usually.

There are a couple good books out there that have alot of the formulas in them. John Lingenfelter wrote one years ago that I have, it's a great read if your into the old school SBC.

only real way to check PTV clearance is to assemble it and check it. there isnt a formula that will say yes or no.

allright thanks guys i was gonna do some modifying of engine parts like stroking it but a friend of mine said i should look into wether or not to do it because the block is a 2 bolt main instead of 4 bolt

blah blah. just do a 383 and use main studs and you will be fine. I had a two bolt main block and made 407hp and I drove it like I stole it with no problems.

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

so its not likely that the extra 2 bolts are gonna make that much of a difference, because i was told youd want a 4 boolt because theres more strai on it, i didnt think it made much sense either way so i decided to ask you guys
