  • Drove the first LS9 Clutch equipped F-body today

As some of you know I volunteered my car to be used in a test fit for one of Katech's up coming LS9X Clutch kits.
Well I test drove it for Jason today because I have the most seat time in the car. Other then a slightly stiffer Pedal and the fact that the clutch grabs right off the floor I couldn't tell it was any different. I should be picking it up Tuesday, can't wait.

Cool. So when are you building it to test the limits of the clutch?

I have to agree with this though. i like my clutch to engage about a 1/4" from the top

I only drove it for maybe 20 min yesterday and it take some getting used to.
Not sure if the off the floor engagement is permenant or if it will change as the clutch breaks in.

The LS9 uses an aluminum flywheel aswell.
Jason told me the total pkg is 8 lbs less then the LS7 which puts it at a similar weight to the stock LS1/LS6 units.

Price is going to be a little steep for what it is though isn't it? $1500+?

Jury is still out of course but you could get a pretty stout aftermarket twin, hold more power for similar or better change, yes? I've got an RPS twin on my project list mainly due to recommendations of driveability, feel, no chatter, etc.

                          I agree
Whether there is going to be a huge market for this setup or not remains to be seen.
I for one have no complaints as mine was done for quite a bit less.

                            Update

Got the car home thanks to my wife and father.
Did another longer test drive tonight and the clutch grab point isn't as low as I first thought. It's definetely lower then it was with ths old clutch, it now grabs about half way thru the pedal travel. It holds great in fact it scared me on a brisk mash of the throttle in second gear. Maybe it's just the salt dust covered roads and the summer only rubber playing tricks with me though.
Either way it's great to have my Car back, and I'd like to put out props to Jason and Katech for a wicked setup and a job well done.
