the LT1 and LS1 rear's are the same. just make sure if you have traction control, you get a 4 channel rear end, and if you don't get a 3 channel rear end. if you have ABS (4channel) you can buy a 3 channel rear end and throw your axles and backing plates on and you're golden! a used 10 bolt goes from $200-$300

i just sold my 10 bolt for $250 and it had about 5K miles on it. 3.73 gears and AAM diff cover. and before i sold it, i had scott@driveline-solutions go through and check it all and tighten it back up...as far as play. my 9" has very little play. when it was brand new you could hardly turn it by hand...it's loosened up some now though!

you can fit 255 on the rear i have the same rims as you and they clear fine on the rear... but its pushing the limit of what the rim can hold... up front 245 will fit but they just slightly rub on the 15 rim... a little spacer will keep it off the fender walls just fine or if you dont mind it its nothing major it will probably wear out with the tire...

You know before you get to far ahead of yourself on this why don't you pull the diff cover and check things out in there, might look fine. Save you some money, any rear with that many miles is going to have some wear in the gears. Guess I'd do that before I went about swapping a complete rear.

(P.S. don't always trust "the gas station" guys, a lot of them only think they know, especially if they aren't certified, and even then, they are out to make a buck first before helping you.)

Thx orange_Terror for the tip I probly will put it up in the air and check it but I have a feeling that its not good. The reason I am trusting the guy at the gas station is.
              A. Because he is a good freind of my dad and has worked on my family's cars for years now.
              B. Because he used to be a certified Mecanic and used to work at a GM dealer ship.

But as u said u don't know for shure till u do it your self and true they are out to make a buck. I'll probly throw it up in the air this week end and take the cover off and see whats going on inside.

honestly if the rear end is not houling or clunking nothing is wrong. the only good way to check it is to pull the rear cover off and put a dial indcator on the ring gear and check the black lash. its easy if you have the tools. we have done four f body rear ends in the past month and they all seem to be between 5 and 8 thousands backlash depending on the brand of gear if you need someone to check it out pm me and let me know

Mine has a clunk also, that is not the u-joint. It is really loose in the rear differential, so I am replacing it with a mini spool for now.

Scott (Lowered 93z) Thanks for the offor but I think that my dad knows how to do it and has the tools. I remeber alwhile ago he said some thing about he had to rebuild the 12 bolt in his 70 Chevelle SS. Thanks again and if he does not know how to I will definatly send u a pm.
