  • just built my first 9" housing, need help on finishing

i just recently got done building this 9" housing myself for my 98 camaro...

I need help with the flush mount bearing ends... i bought those to put on so i can bolt up my stock brakes... i am lost on how to hold the axles in and seal them... will my stock backing plate hold the axles in? What do i need to get to finish this?
i know i still need to order axles and my ford big bearing races to press into the bearing ends

    Thanks

It depends on which flanges you bought. Normally there is a retainer plate that goes on after the seal to hold the axles in. Did you get the right ends for the LS1 backing plates? I know for a fact that the standard Ford big bearing ends have a different bolt pattern that the LS1 backing plates. My 9" housing had the big Ford tapered bearings and the bolt pattern was different than the LS1 backing plates so I had to make modifications.

I got the flush mount ends which work for the ls1 factory disk brakes. I guess i just need to order axles now. Do the bearings have its own seal?

Hey Blake not to go completely off track but who made that housing. I'm really interested in the torque arm bracket and who built it?

that does looks like a nice piece.. but i know i would feel more comfortable with 3 mounting points on the housing and not two

I don't disagree but if its a proven piece then I'm on the right track.

I agree 100%..that mount looks very weak. There is alot of effing stress back there on that mount.

no doubt that area takes some abuse. My bracket(thats bolts to the axle) on the bmr TA is 1/2 think steel and i have bent 2 of them

Do you have a picture of said bracket? I may be able to advise on reinforcing it...

I fabbed up the housing, i bought all my stuff from quickperformance.com to setup my center section and that is where that bracket came from for the TA. i cut off all the brackets from a stock 10 bolt to mount on the 9" tubes

Did you do the welding on a jig?

I slowly welded all the bracketry first then i welded the bearing ends on last with a jig for it to be true to the carrier bearings
