as some of you may already know, me and my formula dont like auto trans, lol. well today i decided to tear it apart and see what i find. besides the black atf and the sickening smell i found that the 2-4 band/reverse input drum had come apart. the snap ring that holds the spring set (?) and the 2-4 clutchs/steels together had failed which you can see spread completely out. i actually thought that it was only half a snap ring yet it was still one piece. sorry this is my first attempt at repairing any kind of trans. anyways looks like ill replace the steels/clutchs (burnt), spring set (worn), 2-4 band (burnt and wore),and possibly the drum itself (depending on specs and if it can be cleaned up). this trans is supposed to be built to hold 500hp by "performabuilt transmission". i have the stage 1.

    http://www.performabuilt.com/level-1.html .

ill disassemble the rest of the 4l60e to clean and inspect the rest, but i think i have it figured out. the valve body will be disaasembled, cleaned and inspected and possibly tested on our valve body machine. ill test the solenoids, ohm them out anyways and make sure they are working. im considering a shift kit, yet i dont want the constant hard shifts so ill have to do some research.

anyways it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. im constantly around allison automatics all day and am familiar with them enough to attempt the repair myself. wish me luck, lol

and the pics, sorry the camera was being stupid

man that was difficult. there has to be an easier way to post pics

Do it yourself. They aren't hard as long as you keep everything in order. I've done several.

Any progress Mike? I know you have had about as much trouble with your tranny as I have my rear end. I hope it works out for you well.

picked up parts at lunch today and got the internals back together. tomorrow ill finish up the valvebody, get the pan and tailshaft housing back on. i want to dyno the trans while i have it at work, yet i still havent purchased the stall yet and i am a ways away from that still.

oh sorry, lol. its been fixed and sitting in the garage waiting on a stall. i pulled the 2-4 clutch pak out of another recently rebuilt trans and shoved it into the other. quick fix and hopefully it holds up for a while
