correct. the longer rod keeps the force applied to the crank more directly which is beneficial.Originally posted by M_Juntti View Postyes its an H beam, and the 6 inch rod with the 3.875 cranks give me the 396 and i wanted a 396 stroker. i know going into the oil ring will burn a little oil, i read that when stroking an engin you want to go with the longer rod because it slows the piston down by kicking the rod on more of an angle-Joel

I look at the oversized heads like this, because its what makes sense in my head but it may be entirely wrong. Your intake side up to the heads can only flow so much air, it is best to match the motor to the heads because you want the right amount of air in the runners so they have a good velocity entering the combustion chamber, there you can only shove so much air as well. Having too much runner creates dead air that isn't being forced so much into the chamber and therefor loses velocity. Having too small of a runner attempts to force too much air into the chamber and therefor the flow is backed up when trying to enter the chamber and therefor loses velocity.Doing less with more

just call Advanced Induction and be done with it. They will tell you what you want to buy for your goals and budget.
(they also have a Ai .383r long block that you will be VERY happy with)
check them out at www.advancedinduction.com

i dont want an engine built for me, i want to learn this stuff and build it on my own, but of course a little pointing in the right path helps a lot. I have learned a lot so far and the thing about the heads makes sense to me now that it has been explainedOriginally posted by ThreeHonks View Postjust call Advanced Induction and be done with it. I agree with Ryan, don't just take it from us I would call AI and LE and see what types of H/C packages they suggest. It doesn't mean you have to buy a longblock but at least they have years of experience far beyond people on this site.Doing less with more

Why would you even wish for an F3? You can't even fit it without an all custom set-up....... not to mention it's made for 2000 hp applications and takes a motor making BARE min 500 hp up to ~900 depending on specifics to even run it....Originally posted by Phantom383 View PostIt's his wish list

Yep. We know enough about what we are talking about to know you weren't going in the right direction but Ive built a total of 2 LT1s so far. Ive spent hundreds of hours reading over the years but AI or LE has probably built hundreds of engines and their experience is going to be greater than ours.Originally posted by DETROITMUSCLE View PostI agree with Ryan, don't just take it from us I would call AI and LE and see what types of H/C packages they suggest. I talked with phil at AI for over an hour about my setup and like I said I am very happy with how it runs now, even if it is a cam only car making 350-370rwhp.

its the same concept essentially, in your case you could run either your stock intake or an aftermarket one but I would think an LT4 would suffice. I'll wait for someone else to confirm this.Doing less with more
