Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Alright i was looking around the site and couldn't find anything about anyone that's done a trans conversion from automatic (4l60e) to manual (t-56). I was thinking about doing it and want to know whats involved, what i would need, and if its worth it? I love manual cars and the only reason i got an auto is because my Camaro was so nice, and all other Camaro's with manuals were not as clean that i could find in my area. Any help or info is greatly apriciated.
Thanks,
Nick

trans crossmember, shifter, bellhousing to fit the LT1, shifter, pedals, and master/slave cylinder unless they come with the trans. I'm pretty sure that's it, maybe something for reverse lockout? There might be something to do with tuning because stick cars don't have any data in the computer pertaining to a trans. 6-speed gets better gas mileage and is more fun to drive but auto is faster in the quarter. I still prefer stick.

Ya and that's what my friends tell me is that autos are faster but i would rather feel more in control with a stick. But "My1994z28" wants to swap everything plus $500. And im wondering if i should do it and what all we would need to swap.

I'd swap to a 6 speed in a heart beat if I was you. Your trans and $500 cash would be worth it IMO T56's are hard to get ahold of for a decent price...

Thats the problem, for a good one they are 1500 bucks
Ya i am really considering this but my Camaro is away in storage till like march and i really wont be able to do it till then. But it would give me time to figure everything out and save up for some parts to go along with it like a short throw and a better trany brace maybe even a torque arm.

Okay so the other thing im trying to find out is how hard this would be for me to do i've been looking around and i haven't really found anything about people swapping drive train's from two running cars i've only found auto to manual conversion's. And im not a master mechanic by any means i just know how take a trany out and rebuild it and stuff like that but ive never gone into detail and looked and every factor that makes it work like electrical and all the cables and stuff.

ok, having done engine swaps and engine removals on both 95, and 95 auto and t56. this is what you will need.
1. the consule is different so you need to include that.
2. the PCM and engine wire harness. needs to go with each trans.
3. trans mount brace.
4. torgue arm
5. slave cyl and actuator cyl.
6. belhousing.
7. clutch and flywheel- 6sp. torque conv. and flex plate- auto.
8. clutch petal asm.
9. maybe drive shaft (different length and spine possible)
10. the lock sol. and the shifter asm for the auto.
11. the ignition lock asm is different also.
The easiest way to acomplish all this would be to drop both engines. The best would be at the same location.
Then be prepared for new throwout bearing and maybe clutch depends on miles and use. I love my 6 speed, it would be worth the work to me.

So the whole wiring harness needs to be switched? So we would need to remove the dash and the whole drivetrain completely?

the engine harness definately, because the PCM controls the shifting in the auto. The PCM also has shift lock solenoids for the t56.
there will be some interior wiring also to the auto shift unit that will be necessary, or worked around stuff

Ya and the thing is he is going to need everything to get his to run smoothly so are best bet would almost be switching whole wiring harnesses. And I've been reading what is on the steering consol that is different between the both of are cars? Would it be easier to swap them and just switch ignitions?
