  • 10 Bolt on the way out?

Driving through the parking garage at school today, I notice a really loud clicking/clunking noise, usually when I get on or off the gas, like picking up ALOT of slop/slack in the drive trian. I reached under the car and with the trans in neutral and the parking brake on, I can turn the drive shaft a good amount either direction, like slop between the pinion and ring gear.

    I assume thats bad?

well it was inevitable anyways but make sure you save for a built rear end either way, no sense in spending any $ on another 10 bolt.

If it goes it wont come out anymore this year and probably wont make an appearance next year either. Moved from community college to a university this semester. Tuition is ridiculous and im broke as hell for the next 2 - 3 years.

You didn't put anything sticky on the rear did you? I can't believe yours is going out already, and Jeff is damn near hanging tires on his, lol.

No sticky tires, just a v8 and a hell of a trans.

I dont qualify for financial aide, "I make to much money."

A Ujoint wont move the driveshaft "a good amount". A ujoint is going to feel more like a small click when you try and turn the driveshaft.

Do you have a lot of gear noise? I would grab your pinion yoke and try to move that up and down or side to side. If there is ANY play in the yoke your pinion bearing is shot.

If anything I would say you have some problems with your carrier or pinion bearing.

Eh? They shouldn't be denying you from student loans - I apply for Stafford Loans through Sallie Mae. I don't get any grants or anything like that, my whole college "career" has been financed through student loans.

O I thought you meant grants. Never had to apply for loans, been lucky so far, been able to pay for it all so far.

I was just going to reply and then saw this post. I would check U joint first unless you get under there and look its hard to tell if its u joint or pinion. Clicking sound is what a u joint will do.
