  • 4L60 Question

Ok guy heres my question..I have a 96 Lt1 formula, 2:73 gears in the back and am stuck with the awesome tranny that only drops into 2nd not first. Now i was talking with a guy today and was telling me that you can knock out the little stopper piece that stops the shifter from going farther back and i will be able to drop it into first? Now i pulled the center console and looked and it appears that everything will work i just didnt want to cut this piece out and then have problems..So wondering if anyone else has done this? let me know please and thanks!

Why do you want to put the car in 1st? If you want to manually shift it you should have bought a stick.

Mine was like that and it worked fine. Then again I burned the clutches up but that wasn't from that mod lol

Ever heard of a manual valve body automatic? I manually shift around town - obviously for drag racing there's absolutely no point to manually shifting because then you have the same problems as a manual - automatics while drag racing FTMFW.

Should work, Ive always heard burnouts should be done in first. Other than that theres no use.

You need more wheel speed than 1st can provide to really heat the tires properly.
