    I don't think I'd go with synthetic unless you were going to flush the whole system. Synthetic and conventional have different properties and especially with old oil it won't be a good combo I don't think, I could be wrong, so if I am somebody correct me. Change the filter and fluid and put in regular conventional fluid, then take it easy on 4th when you shift into it.

      well trans fluid is hydralic fluid it pretty much is sythetic to start thin oil with adatives , i cant think of any new transmission fluid that cant be mixed aslong as it has met industry standards..the bad thing with auto trans is you always get the same symptoms no matter what the problem you could have a dirty old filter or your clutch pack could be wearing out you really dont find out till you start loosing gears all together or like my last time come to a dead stop on the highway at 80mph
      unless you like to tear apart auto trannys but by that time you might as well rebuild it..lol

              no a th400 is spelled gas guzzler but you could also rip out the pumps at the gas station and not hurt it... depends were your priorities are..lol
