  • F my 5.3 life.......

Was on the 69/75 interchange on my way to work this morning when I heard a horrifying noise followed by a really strange drive. We think the flexplate exploded or broke a piece off.

    Anyone else have this happen?

Who makes a good aftermarket one?

The big bi*** is that I just dropped the insurance on my daily so I could drive this. Looks like I'm driving the jeep for now.....

Sucks to hear that Spencer. Hope it's not too expensive of a fix!

I still haven't decided weather or not I'm going to do the work. Its not costly just a pita. I haven't checked the starter, it hasn't moved from the garage since, I'm going to fiddle with it tomorrow night. Worked a double again today so no time to check it out.

What causes this? Its weird how it happened out of the blue?

Maybe the weight came off of it. I have seen them crack but never break a chunk off.

This thing made a hell of a noise followed sounding like someone set off some type of shrapnel/scatter grenade under the car, little bits of shit flying out from underneath. Kinda curious to take a look tonight.

I cant speak from experience on the LS or LT engines but, I had a 3400 installed in a cavalier and the 6 bolts that hold the flexplate on sheered almost a perfect circle out of the center of the flex plate

That's usually what happens from what I've heard.
