4l60e issues - need help!

I'm at a loss as to what broke or whats happing and before I take it to a place like Aamco to get raped I'd like to see if maybe someone else has had the same issues if they could tell me whats the issue and if I canfix it myself.

1. Basically the first thing I'm noticing is that when it's cold (first drive of the morning after sitting all night) it shifts just fine from 1 - 2 but the 2 - 3 shift is WAY delayed. Some times she'll get to 4K before even wanting to make the shift. After a couple of miles or just warming up for 15 minutes it'll be fine. But after it sits for a few hours it starts doing it again.

2. The other issue I'm finding is that if I punch it too hard from a dead stop (breaking the tires loose) she seems to miss the 1-2 shift altogether and red-lines. If I get off the gas and let the RPMs come back down it'll shift but any hard hit and it's like it forgets it has a second gear and goes right into neutral...

I've looked at a couple of FAQ about this POS transmission and from the bit I've found I've decided to replace the shift solinoid A and B and I've checked the 1-2 shift actuator piston for damage (and I checked the 3-4 for the hell of it). They are in fine order. Fuilds have been flushed and changed. Filter is new. I don't know what else it could be.
Any help would be appreciated.

gonna need a rebuild, mine did that last year when i bought my car and i was testing it out taking off and i blew all but reverse, be nice on it till you can find a new tranny, there like 500 dollars at the junkyard. and there some low miles.

Yup, then i went over to speedway and talked with shawn. Raced a mustang gt 94-95 walked him untill i got into third then boom done. had 1st,2nd, and reverse. Got it home and it was smoked couldnt see lol. So mike is getting my buisness. And Grant for a heavy duty rebuild its realativley inexpensive through mike. Do it once right so it dosent happen again ya know.

Grant, it sounds like your speed sensor is starting to fritz out on you. I'd start there, honestly. It's the sensor on the driver's side of the tailshaft of the transmission. Very easy to get to with the car up in the air.

Sounds like clutch packs to me, smell the dipstick I bet it smells burnt to a crisp. Time to have ridings build it with a stout converter.

Perhaps you could scan it also. That would point in the right firection, even before you take it to a place like Aamco. I know when I had a problem with the sensor plug leaking, it threw a code and triggered the SES.

Grant your point #2 is exactly what was happening to me. I think its your clutch packs.

Well i think what I'm going to do is take it to Aamco and have them look at it (it's free to have it looked at). Then based on that ($$$ being the deciding factor) I'll either have it fixed or sell the damn thing and get my 5th gen. Win win situation if you ask me.
