Traction Control

I dont think my traction control is not working. Its throwing a few different codes for ABS. I will have to post them later. What are some things I should look into and see if its bad or replace?

Possible wheels speed sensor wire cut, or you may have a wheel bearing going out.

Check for air in your brakes too. If your "BRAKE" light turns on, it will disable your ABS system.

I know one of the codes is a speed sensor. I haven't got to the shop to grab the scanner yet. Where are all the speed sensors located? Also are they just plug and play?

The other day I drove it and it came on, but went away. I don't think there is any air in the system.

With the traction control I'm not 100% positive but I *believe* the wheel sensor on the rear end is still on the pumpkin. The other two sensors are on the back of the front wheels (one on each front wheel) - you'll see a two wire connector going from the kframe across to the lower a-arm and then to the back of the rotors. If you're throwing a sensor code I'd start there. Two sensors on the front suspension, one on the rear end = 3 channel. Two sensors on the front suspension, two sensors on the rear suspension (one sensor behind each wheel) and it's a 4 channel.

So I called and I guess for the front speed sensor you have to replace the hub...$172 a piece. I think I might skip that..

Yes, they are integrated into the wheel bearing, look around, thats a pretty terrible price, I paid $109 for a timken with a lifetime warenty.

On a car with traction control the speed sensor are in the axel shafts them selves or by the brake rotor, 99% sure of that. If you have one speed sensor in the middle on the pumpkin thats a non TC car.

Your TC and possible ABS will not work until you replace that sensor, its what the computer uses to determine if a wheel is slipping or locked up. Whatever thats worth to you.

Also a tid bit of info, if the brake light is on it does not 100% of the time disable the ABS. Mine came on the other night coming home from work when it was pouring, a deer jumped out in front of me and my ABS and low trac came on. When I got home I noticed I was low on brake fluid. So this is atleast 1 circumstance when the ABS still works with the BRAKE light on. But generally this is not the case. Just your interesting fact of the day...

Alright. Im going have to look into it, but now I got the scanner and everytime I go to check my ABS it says lost connection with vehicle, it does not do that when checking airbag, engine/pcm, or tranny. I have a nemysis by otc. Dont know what to do now? And I dont think my ABS is working..

Never heard of that, I use PCMScan and my laptop. See if you can pull up the reading from the wheel speed sensors, should bring up all 4 at the same time, have someone check while going down the road to see if all 4 show the same.

What did that program cost ya? And the abs inop is on. My brakes feel real weak right now too

A couple hundred I think? Doesnt do any tuning, but its great for diag. Check out obd all in one, just google it. You'll come accross there site and theres a great list of free and pay for programs on it.

You do have a 95 though, cant remember if thats OBDI or OBDII.

Brakes feel soft? Are you low on fluid?

He's OBD1.5 - not sure what that REALLY means though... I should find out considering I have a 95 engine now too. To me all it seems like is the sensors are OBD1, wiring is semi-prepared for OBD2 (plug, a few extra wires that don't go anywhere), etc.

I think 1.5 means the car is 1, but the under dash connector that you plug in to is the OBDII style.

There's some wiring that has to do with it too - there's a purple wire that's used for OBD2 connector that is in the dash wiring harness but it runs over to one of the 3 connections in the passenger kick panel and it just terminates there because there's no wire on the other side of the connector in 1995... but in 1996 there is.
