Yup, 4 channel, with ls1 brakes, lt1 e brake squeezed the caliper, ls1 rears had the mini drum thing inside the rotor that looks like a top hat. 99% sure anyway.

That rear don't look like a 4th gen rear but I could be wrong.
I have not seen a rear with that shield/cover on it before.
the rear end you installed for mike had that cover, I took it off to put it on my old car before selling it. I think most come with that cover.. looks like an fbody rear end to me

upon looking further it looks like it has the abs/tcs sensors at the wheel meaning that is a newer ls1 years rear end. I did a similiar swap on my v6 firebird with TCS. your TCS and ABS will not work anymore if you swap that rear end in and if its a 4 channel. That is all assuming your current rear end is a 3 channel with TCS (most v6 ones are). One easy way to check will be to look at your rear end right now, if there is a sensor for ABS/TCS on the top of the pumpkin/differential then you know its a 3 Channel, if the sensors are over by the wheels then it is definately a 4 channel.

If I was you I'd find out exactly what rear end you have and just get a posi and gears for it

but it will still bolt up with no modification? that is my main question.

All of the 93-02 rear ends will "bolt up" without modification, but if it's a 3 channel and you have a 4 channel your abs and traction control won't work. The rear end will still function fine.

Ugh! I just saw that damn "shoe-in-hat" brake design in this thread. GM went with that? I worked on a Grand Cherokee that had that in the rears. Rear end was locked up and the shoe was what had wedged between the hat and the backing plate. Fixed up alright, but I didn't like the fact that could happen. Anyway, no hijack intended. Just saw that and had to comment.

Good luck on the swap. You know, I drove for many years without ABS and have never had TC, so without ABS it would just make it a mechanical system, which being partially old school, wouldn't stop me from fixing the ride.

Why the Hell do I have to press 1 for english?!

                            alot of gm's use that
they just take some persuasion to get them off. I use a 5lb sledge.
Its better then the screw in the caliper design, they get frozen up and are a pita to turn in.
