What year did they start putting disc brakes in 3rd gen? I bought one and the guy said it was from an '86 IROC, are these longer like the 4th gens?

Right from the start. Available from 1982, option code RPO-J65 and available all through the 3rd Gen era.

3rd gen rears are narrower than 4th gens, if thats what the second part of your question was asking.

Like Doug said...from 82 on. And no the disk brake rears are the same length as the drum brake rears.....which are 2 inches shorter per side than the the 4th gen rears.

Are the calipers and everything the same except the length of the axle shafts? (3rd to 4th gen) I am just going to have to buy the 2" spacers to use my C6 rims or is that just to make it track the same?(for the front)
