  • Guideplates?

I am thinking about putting pushrod guide plates on my lt1...I was told I should machine rocker arm studs, but I am using roller rockers. I was just curious on if machining is neccesary or not.. Thanks

Never heard of machining them. I will be using arp 7/16th studs with guide plates.

why do you wanna run guide plates?
you only need them if you have non self aligning rockers. what kind of push rods do you have?

Get only GM LT1 guideplates. The ones from comp cams and crane for example are a tad off and cause pushrod wear. Standard Gen I plates will not work. I have pics in my sig showing the difference. This was discussed in detail a few years back on another forum.

I had to run ARP studs because of the tapper they use on the nut. The stock stud nut will hit the rocker. Pics in sig also.

Non GM plate and push rods after 200 miles

Guideplate comparsion. GM on top. You can see the notch on the comp cam plate the pushrod made.

Stock studs will hit the rocker arm if using guide plates. ARPs have a tappered nut and clear. I guess you could have the stock nuts cut down but may cost just as much as buying new ARPs.

I have the 5/16 7.20 comp cams magnum pushrods.

I was to run the guideplates just for reinsurance.
