  • Rebuild or buy used 4L60E for 98 LS1???

My tranny is toast. The car will not go into any gear FWD or REV. I believe that the pump gave out. I say this because the fluid level was fine before the trans went out and then after it went out the level showed overfilled when running or not running. I pulled the trans pan which was full of gray sludge. I have had an aftermarket 3400 Fuddle stall converter in the trans for the past 3 years. I also have a B&M trans cooler. The car has 110k miles.

I have a limited budget and am wondering if I would be better off having someone local rebuild the trans or if I should buy a used trans. Does anyone know a good trans builder in West Michigan. Also does anyone here know where I can find a good used trans for under $500. Of course the trans will need to be a 4L60E for a 98-02 LS1. THANKS.

I would check local ads and craigslist. A rebuild will probably cost over $500

It will be over 500 to rebuild.

It will cost over 500 to build, especially if the converter exploded. Give me a call, i'll try to keep it as painless as possible, you have my word on that. I can take care of the converter as well.
