My clutch pedal has about 3" free play in it before I get any resistance. What are some possible causes? Its a 3.8 V6 with 5 speed manual.

By free play do you mean movement before the clutch starts to grab ?CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

Well my car is an M6 with 129K miles and the original clutch still in it.Originally posted by freakshow View PostYes. It does seem excessive though.
My clutch doesn't start to grab untill like 2" from the top of the pedal travel. If yours is grabbing about 3"s off the floor I wouldn't be worried about it.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

My clutch seems to work fine, but when I start to push the pedal down there is no resistance for the first 2" to 3" inches. Is this an indication of a problem.Originally posted by 9T8W66 View PostWell my car is an M6 with 129K miles and the original clutch still in it.

Have you tried pumping the pedal to see if that solves some of the problem ? I mean it is a hydraulic system like the brakes. Maybe check your fluid level aswell.CraigSemi Retired Street Racer2012 Lava Red Mustang GT 5.0 MT82GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN

idk much about the v6's but is the trans a internal slave?Originally posted by freakshow View PostI have tried pumping the pedal and no change. I just bought the car recently and was checking the fluids and slave reservoir was dry, I added fluid. Could there be air in the line? How do I bleed it?sigpic
