now after popping around trying to find a decent overdrive trans im left with i think with a couple options... i wanted to do a 4l80e which is just a electronic overdrive 400th but ive heard so many little facotry glitches with this trans that it doesnt seem to be worth the hastle... now from what i understand the 200r4 is the same as a 700r4 except for the fact that it has steal parts where the 700r has the weaker aluminum parts.. they came in the monte carlo/grand nashes for a while and seem like they can handle the power but ive never personally had one so im not sure... anyone ever have this trans in a car they owned? build up shift kits/ TC converter and everything else seem to be the same price as a 700r4 and it uses a 700r4 driveshaft... now its eaither that or im would build up a 4l60e and just haev to figure out the wiring in which case im goign to need help finding the kit for it... cant seem to track one down...if i do this swap i want to do it soon before i drop the motor back in

they are the same size as a 350th too so i can just bust out the old 350th drive shaft and go... ive looked for a few... im thinking about it right now the best i found was a 350hp for 1200 bucks new with a 3 year warranty...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. depends if i have time to find an overdrive decent enough... right now its got a 400th in it but i have a spare 350th drive shaft.... so i might go with that 2004r if i can find a decent oneOriginally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. just be very weary of the 700R4 trans.. had one in my 400 ci silverado.. was pushing like 475 hp with it.. just bought the trans after the motor rebuild cause i heard that was the hot setup.. and installed it.. tranny had some stuff done to it.. synchros and shift kit and shit, but the thing bout the 700r4 is, if they aren't set up perfectly.. they burn clutches faster then you can say.. holy shit.. took me about 2 weeks. i was like wtf.. so went to a spare bert 2 spd trans.. and that was some fun.. but not so good on the gas milage..

Hey Dave, FYI I believe its a 2004r not r4, just so you know. I have a 2004r but it needs a rebuild. But I do have one if you are interested in getting it built. Its out of an 83 chevy truck. I have read and heard that indeed if built well the 2004r is a stronger tranny than the 700r4.

ya i was looking at one last night a guy had built he wanted like 800 bucks for it, but it handled 550hp.. but hes in maine and i dont feel like that kinda drive... but if you have one that would be awsome... id rather build it all myslef so i know its setup right.Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. ya i found a dealer that has a full rebuild and shift kit for the 2004r for 575 bucks shipped to the door able to handle 650hp and rev to 9,000rpm... so if you still wanna ditch that trans my way id be more than willing to take it off yoru hands...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. ya but for what trans? the 2004r isnt really popular anymore but when built right it doesnt have the problems of the 700r4... the only thing with the 700r4 is the TV cable has to be perfect if not set up right it will blow no matter how much power your pushing from 150-1000 it would still blow... its worse than tuning a carb... but the problem is atleast you get a second chance with a carb... with the 2004r kit its all new forged gears... center shaft, performance clutches and bearings seals... this is a ground up rebuild all you would really need is a case and some of the outer pieces... not a basic rebuild...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice.
