  • Drag rules on cages

Not sure where to put this exactly as we don't really have a drag section but o well.

What are the rules for running at the strip when it comes to roll cages? I know it is in the 11s or whatever, but is there a certain point in 11s? Or 11s in general?

Also how many pts does it have to be? I hate the look of the bar across the seats to the firewall area. Plus it is impossible to get in unless you make it so you can take those bars off when not at the track.

I am just trying to see where the point is that I will need a cage. I do not want to do a cage really, and might just run my times and once I get the boot I am done then.

that is good to hear, I am going for 11.5s-12.0 anyways right now.

But that nitrous shot can always go bigger on accident a few times. lol

Good info, knew about the cage and harness(based on speed or time), didn't know I'd need a fire jacket for nitrous...

I thought a 5 point was legal. I'd want a cage with low door bars or removeable swingouts for a street/strip car.

A firejacket has not been needed in the past when I ran, is that new or just if you are running a certain time with nitrous?

this is not from this years book
                  13.99 to 11.500
Use these rules in addition to the general rules for full bodied cars only.
Driveshaft loop required if running slicks, and remember the tech can call drag radials slicks at his disgression.
Convertibles running faster than 13.49 must have rollbar and SFI 16.1 restraints
                  Helmet must be Snell , K98, 2000, 2005, SFI 31.1, 31.2, 31.1a, 31.2a, 31.1/2005, 41.1, 41.1a, 41.2, 41.2a, 41.1/2005. SFI 31.x = SA SFI 41.x = M
IHRA also allows Snell 90, for this class only.
If your helmet doesn’t have a clearly marked designation from this list, don’t be pissed if you get turned away.
NHRA only. All non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, and nitrous cars need SFI 3.2a/1 fire jacket. (Should have put this in the general rules too as this is for any ET slower than 10.00.)

Flywheel and clutch must be SFI 1.1 or1.2
Flywheel shield meeting SFI spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 mandatory.
Driveshaft loop mandatory reguardless of tire type.
                    Rollbar mandatory
SFI 16.1 5 point restraint mandatory, updated every 2 years.
M-SA90 helmets are no good for this ET at IHRA
                    SFI 3.2a/1 fire jacket.

10.99 to 10.00 or cars running 135+ mph
Use these rules in addition to the general rules and 13.99 to 11.50 and the 11.49 to 11.00 rules for full bodied cars only.
                      SFI 18.1 harmonic balancer mandatory
Aftermarket axles and axle retention device mandatory
SFI 4.1 spec transmission shield required on automatic trans cars
Rollcage required for convertibles or cars running faster than 135.
Rollbar is still OK for full bodied cars with stock firewall, floor, and body.
SFI 29.1 flexplate if car runs 135mph

I have a jacket for when I use nitrous but no one has ever asked to see it in tech or anywhere. I have run at 131 and Stanton and no one asked.

The last few times I raced at Martin, they didn't even have me pop my hood. 2 years ago, they turned me away because I had shorts on. I think it depends on the night, who is checking your car, and how busy it is.
