  • I need my baby back........

I am miserable cause I havent had my car running for a month now and I want it back. I have tried everything possible to fix it but nothing works.

Here's the problem. My car will start and idle fine after sitting for a while but after 10 minutes or so the idle drops and no acceleration. I have spent numerous hours as well as other people working on it. I was tripping two trouble codes (22 TPS and 34 MAF) we investigated and found some wiring and vacuum problems which eliminated the trouble codes but the problem still exist. I have heard alot of third gens have this problem. Is this so. Please help I'd appreciate it

you might just want to buy a new TPS because there so cheap and not have to worry about that anymore. When my tps went it just kind of worked 50/50 and was really a nu since

If you got a MAF code, have you looked into replacing your MAF? when I had my 86 bird the car would not stay running unless the SES light was on and it would stale out a lot. Bought a new one off eBay and problem solved.

        What all have you checked?
        Fuel pressure?
        Plugs?
        Wires?
        Coil?
        Exhaust?
        Intake?

We can try to help, Just need to know what you have done to narrow the problem.

Have you checked the volts at the TPS? & the IAC?

Thirdgen.org will generally give a good response as well.

Fuel Pressure : Its getting fuel it smells like it runs rich

Intake : Took Throttle body and cleaned it and checked IAC and changed the TPS with no difference

I've changed my plugs and wires and tested my coil also

And the exhaust has an after market system installed by previous owner

Is your TPS adjusted to the correct voltage? (Or is it the non-adjustable type?).

Did you set your IAC to idle at the correct RPM?

Is your Cat still installed? Clogged?

I had a similar problem with my third gen, I would start and 1 min later it would stall. I checked my TPS, then cleaned MAF and still the same problem. It turns out my fuel pump was bad. It was getting enough gas to start but I couldn't even here the fuel pump engaging when i turned the key. You might want check the fuel pump fuse and relay before you assume its the pump.
