Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

The worst case scenario is that it will be overgeared, which it sounds like you would enjoy anyway
O.K. so what exactly do you mean by overgeared? I never pay attention to the speedo or that RPM thingy when I shift...I just go by the sound. So what does overgeared mean exactly. It will change the way the car shifts?
my code sheet is on the drivers door not the glove box
HA-HA! My doors were stripped and painted. I'm screwed! Does it really matter what I have in there right now? Can't I just change to whatever or is that not such a good idea. I guess I'm asking what will happen if I go with say 3.90 gears and I have 2.?? whatever in there right now. Will any gears work with what I have? I don't want to buy new gears and a bearing kit only to find I have to have something else. I might just as well buy an entire new rear end. And if push comes to shove, I guess I can always mark the tire and drive shaft and try to figure it out that way. Sounds easy enough to do.
When im talking about too much gear im talking primarily about 1st gear. If your car had a 2.73 gear originally, the trans has a really short 1st gear to compensate for it... so if you put a huge gear in it first gear is going to shoot through the RPMs at a finger's snap. Its nothing that would be a problem just something you should be aware of. If you have a 3.23 rear I think youll have the same 1st gear as everyone else and it wont matter.
it also does matter what rear end you have for the gearset, i think 2.73s were 2 series, and anything 3.23 and up is 3-series???
Since the inception of the 700, say 82 to current 700,4l60,4l60-e/65-e/and 70-e all have the same gear ratios : 1st = 3.06 , 2nd = 1.63 , 3rd = 1.00, 4th = .70 .

we are not talking automatic transmission here, its a T56.
93 was in fact a screwy year for the T56, if you go to this website you will see that there are 3 different transmissions for the LT1 cars, 2 of them being 93 transmissions.
Well I have a 93 with the 6 speed and I had 3.23's in the rear.
Joel is right about the carrier though 2.73-3.08 i belive are a 2 series and 3.23 and up are 3 series.
I race my car so I put a 9" in that my neighbor got of a F-body and so I go a good deal, 1200.
I do have 4.10's in the 9" and it's really snappy in 1-2nd gear and when I'm going down the high-way @ 90 I'm really only going 75-77MPH ,
I'm off by about 12-15 MPH on the high-way
You will take the chance of breaking a set of 4.10's on a 10 bolt (stock rear) with a 6 speed, even with a stock motor.
I think Joel mentioned this but the stock rear has a 7.5 inch (I think) ring gear and the more teeth you add to it the weeker it gets because they have too add more teeth to an already week piece of equipment.

Someone else told me that to. I will keep it below 4.10 and maybe just go with something like this:
It boils down to how much you wanna spend. That S60 is a beast and you will never break it.......only thing you will need to get it to work is a shorter driveshaft. You get that rear and alot of fellas around here will be jealous.
