I agree, The motor and parts alone will easily cost you $5000 + doing the work yourself.Originally posted by 81DaytonaPaceCar View PostAlright...let's go point by point...
A. No problem...it can be done. For a 67 Bonney, plan on new motor and trans mounts and driveshaft.
B. Keep in mind that resto parts for 67 Bonneys can be tough to find...a lot of one-year-only parts, especially trim parts...make sure it's as complete as possible.
C. $5K will be a challenge, especially including the cost of the car...for 500-700 RWHP, you'll have that into the motor before you're done. For arguments sake, let's say you want 500 RWHP with nitrous...this is what I would recommend as a start...
500 RWHP is essentially 500 flywheel horsepower before nitrous.
383 cubic inch SBC (350 block with 400 crank...do NOT skimp money on the crank, especially with nitrous).
Aluminum heads...I'll guess you'll want 11:1 compression...and don't skimp on the heads...the heads is where you make horsepower...
High quality rods and pistons...I'd go forged.
Intake and carb...avoid dual quads...this is where you can save money for important stuff...like heads...for a carb, you'll want a 750-800 cfm as a guess.
Ignition...another place to not skimp on money...buy the best you can afford...and no, the factory setup will not do...
Fuel...plan on an electric fuel pump.
Cooling...plan on spending money here too...factory setup will not do...
And then the cost of the nitrous setup...not sure what that would be.
But without the price of the car, and you doing a lot of the work yourself, the above list is probably $5000-7000 to do it right...as a ballpark.
OK...everyone pile on...lol...
EDIT: I didn't include the cost of the trans...I'd go Turbo 400, but you can build a 350 to do what you want it to do...another $1000.
And you'll probably want to go 12-bolt for a rear end...the Bonney likely has a 10...another $500-1000.
Just to add, a decent nitrous setup, $7-800. Plan on a separate fuel system to support that too, safest way to do it.
That adds a 2nd fuel pump to the cost plus a separate system. Also plan on upgrading the rest of the base fuel system to be able to handle the flow of the new pump.
Don't skimp on parts or machine work, otherwise all the other money and time is wasted when it breaks, could accomplish the same things flushing the money down the toilet. It's just a lot more work than flushing would be.

lol 5K for a 700rwhp car including the car is a complete joke, sorry but like Jeff and Jason said cheap and fast NEVER! go together unless it is unreliable and can only make a pass or two then its more money to fix what you broke.Doing less with more

so im trying to figure out why you want to build a fast car out of something so big? why not just buy a 3rd gen like u had thought of building that motor and being faster yet ???
ohh and 5 grand for the car and the motor pushing 5-700 horse.... aint gonna happen... i have 5-6 k into my set up and im only at like 450 horse..

They aren't stock heads, bud. You need to actually come and take an inventory of the parts I have for it before you start asking for more, you're just going to end up confused in the end. I don't think there's a stock part on this engine, I even have a set of headers for it somewhere. It's been rebuilt at least once that I remember, and it was laying down 12 second 1/4's in my dad's old S10 DD. Come over next time you're in town, and I'll help you get everything together so you know what you have.Originally posted by phoenix_rising View PostI just acquired a 4 bolt main 355 SBC. I have the stock heads, but I was thinking about starting the search for performance parts for it. I hear AFR are very good but they are very expensive. I hear RHS is good and they are a little more in my price range. Any other alternatives? What about a set of aluminum Vortech heads? Also what do you guys think about Edelbrock intakes and carbs? I like the Edelbrock dual carb setup.
Another question, will these fit in my firebird now that I have a WS6 hood?Nick H.

Thats unreal! I had not realized all that. I am excited beyond believe right now. Jen just gave me a weird look because I am bouncing around on the couch! LOL
I will be in Adrian this weekend. Give me a call and let me know when you will have some time to get together. While we are at it we can go test drive that Formy if you want. Should be fun to cruise a 3rd gen for a while Eh?
Thanks Nick!
P.S. It was great doing the NAIAS show with you this weekend. We need to hang out more often. Until later bro!

Don't worry about it. The heads I have do need new valves, but I know they aren't stock. There's not a stock part on that motor. You really got a sweet deal, and it was a pleasure doing business with you. How about you make sure you bring my cell phone charger back with you when you come back, and call my dorm room when you get here?Originally posted by phoenix_rising View PostBefore I read this I was about to post this...
