If you end up picking the TH400, how much do you want to spend? I know a guy with a few TH400s worth about 5k that I believe is selling them for 1k.

I was thinking more in the line of a core and have it built.
I have a line on someone who says they can build it to handle 1500-1700 hp with no problem.
I gues it would depend on the build and what not.
If he is selling a fully built, ready to go trany for a 1000 with some type of warenty that could be in my ball park.
I just need to get my car parted out and get some cash 1st.

I used to know a guy that was running a 79 Camaro with a 555 CI bowtie block, dart heads, all port matched and flow bench tested and 13.5:1 compression. The motor alone was making close to 1000hp. He also ran anywhere from 150-250hp shot of nitrous on it. This was 5-6 years ago but he ran a 400 tranny and I think spent about $1500 to have one built. They are bulletproof if built well. If it were me, I'd spend the money on a 400 over a 350 or glide. the 350 is a good tranny but not as strong, I personally would want the strongest I could get for my money. True it takes a little more power to turn, but it shouldn't break, even if you add more power later.
I also would pick it over the glide because with 3 gears and a small block you will want to keep your motor in its power range. Will be harder to do with 2 gears in a glide.

One of my forman her at work is a gear head too and pickup a 400 motor w/ a trany last year.
Well he don't want the 400 so he said he would sell it to me
We haven't nailed down a price yet but with the research I have done 4-500 is the going price for one in good condition.
The cool part is that it was in a car before he got it so I know it works
Converter, I haven't nailed down yet??
I'm thinking a 10" converter for 32-3500 rpm but I want to wait till I get the motor work done before I buy anything there.
The trany will be getting a B&M shift kit for sure!!
No I know this sounds stupid but what's a trans break & how does it work??

Yes
I did some more digging (Thanks 1BADAIR) on the trans break and I have to put a trans break soleniod in the trany along with some wiring to activate it.
From what I was told it's quite involved because you have to take apart the trany's valve body to do it.
