Trany Help (Race)

Well if you saw my thread on my project car you know that I have big plans for it.
LS6 Motor going 9sec or better
I'm going to need a trany that will work for this and not blow up with the pwr I will be putting down to go 9's.
I will probibly use N2o and use 150-200 shot.

My question is:
What trany will work best and hook up to the LS motor?
I want to stay away from any computer controled stuff as much as posible!
This car will be a turn key and not used for the street.

yup th400! i got a 350 in mine but with the power you want def a 400!

Now this is the only site that has sugjested the TH400.
Why?
Everyone else has said the Power Gluid?
I'm not discrediting anyone but I would like to know why people sugjest what they do.
Why the 400 and not the Gliud?
What's the difference between the 2?
Will the 400 hook up better to the LS 6?
And what does the wht of our cars have to do with the Gliud being "bad"??
I'm a manual kind of guy so the Automatic trany stuff is kinda new to me in a way.

A glide seems like too much IMO its a 2 speed straight race tranny, normally fitted for single digit cars and obiviously not good for street driving. The TH400 is a 3 speed auto that will hold more than enough power for your combo and still proper your car to single digit times but is a lot more street friendly. The glide I believe is also heavier than the TH400.

I did end up going down to Martin this week end to see my buddy race and most people were saying the TH400 with a Glide here and there.
It seems to be more of a preference thing than anything so I have to figure out what I want.

It would be nice if I could see cars run with these tranys or drive one just to see how they do.

But now that I know what I have to look for I just have to figure out my pwr combo and pick the proper trany

I agree with what has been said. Power Glides are for big block power adder motors, not stock bodied F-cars. You might even look at TH350s. They take less hp to run than a TH400 and are more similar dimension-wise to an f-body 700R4 than the TH400 is. Coan makes a lightweight TH350 that's pretty beefy and I've had no problems with my Coan 700R4. Just some thoughts.

Another random thought: I've seen Buick GN guys run built 200R4s with good sucess. The 200R4 is a direct bolt in for f-bodys but doesn't have the 700R4s deep 3.08 first gear so it's like a TH350 with OD.

I had a TH400 in my old 86 cutlass w/ 455 big block...

The tranny was stock with a shift kit but it seemed bulletproof...I was 17 and beat the shit out of that car and it never let me down...

So if I decided to put a Turbo on would the 400 handle it?
What about a 200 shot?

A TH400 will handle a turbo or nitrous for sure, were talking about switching to a glide if your looking to hit 1000rwhp or so and by the sound of it your not seeing as you don't wanna dump loads of cash into this project and still be very fast.

So so, I want to do it right.
If I can get the car going under its own pwr by the end of summer I would be happy.
That's why I'm trying to nail down the trany thing but by the sounds of it, it's personal preferance in a way.

I think I'm leaning twards the 400 a little more but that could change??

I'll be looking around Ebay, Racing Junk, MiFbody, CZ28, LS1 Tech, SEMB, swap meets, and other places to find parts if I can.

I have a buddy that work in the junk yard biz so he is keeping an eye out for a 400 for me.

I have a few things going right now and if I can get them done it will net me about 7-800 in cash and I'll start on the motor and go from there.
