stock monsoon midrange replacemetn...

Hey guys a week or so ago I posted that I bought new speakers for my car. Again Ill tell you Ive went with Arc audio speakers. Ive gotten 2 sets of 6 1/2in components and one set of 4 inch coaxils. I have to factory Monsoon system just in case someone asks. I went Tuesday to replace the stock midranges in the backseat frist because they are the easiest to get to. When I pulled them out there were 2 sets of wires going to each speaker from the harness. Now Im guessing that makes them dual voice coil speaker if Im right here. Now Ive read every sticky I can find and even the one from LS1Tech about replaceing our speakers in our cars. Now that thread said to use the longer 2 wires out of the 2 sets of wires and tape off the shorter set. That is exactly what I did. Now I assumed that the hot wire was the red wire and the ground wire is the red and black striped wire and that is how I hooked them up to the speakers. Now after I did that the speakers dont seem to produce as much bass as the stock midranges did. Will someone tell me if I did this install right or If Ive crossed the wires? Just tell me any thought on this, but especially why it seems that the arc speakers seems as thougth they arent producing the same amoutnt of bass as the stockers. ANy help is apreciated guys, thanx. The monsoon setup sucks. The stock speakers are supposedly 10 ohm dual voice coil speakers. When you put a 4 ohm aftermarket speaker in there it just doesn't sound good and because of the crossover in the monsoon amp you're not going to get any highs. There isn't enough power from the monsoon amp to really drive aftermarket speakers properly. I have always hated the sound in my SS, but in the V6 I just bought it sounds totally different and actually sounds pretty decent. I replaced the stock headunit with a JVC and it actually bumps pretty good with the stock speakers. I was going to replace the whole setup with aftermarket stuff but I may just save my pieces and put them in the SS. I think the monsoon is the worst system ever put in a GM vehicle. It makes replacing speakers a major pain since the amp is low powered and just makes it more of a hassle. Brian had posted a way to bypass the amp and just run the speakers off the head unit. Maybe he can post a link to his writeup on it.

yeah just run new wires right from the the deck. i tried the same thing and ended up rewiring it. I also only did my door speakers and they sound 100% better.

ON the back of the mids from the back seat they say 4ohm/4ohm. So im guessing they are 4ohms not 10ohms as you say. The speakers I used to replace them wiht are also 4ohms.

get a good aftermarket amp for your arc audios, trust me you won't regret it, they are awesome speakers (among the best on the market at any price)

I only paid 240 bucks for 2 sets of KAR 6 1/2 components and one set of KAR 4 in. coax. speakers. I got a great deal on them and they were brand new and werent HOT.
