  • Door chime sound....Ever make you think you drive an old hoopty?

I despise the sound our cars make. That stupid chime for keys in, door open, lights on, etc. Newer cars have a softer more refined sound, ours is a harsh DING.

I heard the speaker is on the BCM. Shouldnt it be a matter of replacing this speaker/buzzer with one from a slightly newer car? (Newer than our cars, but not new enough to the point where the sound is coming out of the car speakers) I recently worked on an 01 Sunfire and it was the first thing I noticed.

    Thoughts?

Your BCM might be different, but my car had a speaker under the dash. I just straight up removed it.

Where was it Joel? I read a thread on TECH that it was inside of the BCM, but not sure if its true or not. Not a ton of info on the subject.

I want to say mine was on the driver side and was a small plastic box with a harness connected to it. But like i said, my car might be different.

New new cars just generate the sound and send it from the BCM to the radio and play it through the speakers.

I know that is right for the new stuff. That was one of the reasons stated for keeping a 1 speaker radio on the new Z28. Some requirement for door chime and warning buzzer... It stuck out to me because you don't need to put in a entire stereo for that. My company just puts an off the shelf buzzer on the back of our gauge panels. Like "JoaliusZ28" said, a small black box (ours is actually a cylinder).
