  • time for some new speakers.

Well since I don't know dick about speakers. I thought someone might be able to help me out. Though some trading I might end up with a pair of new kicker QS 62.5 speakers with the crossovers. My question is first are these a good choice and do they fit? I believe camaro's have 6 1/2's. Any help would awesome

I have the set of the far-back 4" from KEE and they were a direct replacement with much better sound from those stock wimpy far back speakers.
Do not have the 6.5 fronts or middles but have heard good things.

I've wanted these for years (based on all the great reviews) but my money always seems to go into performance mods Some day I will have these!

Kicker QS are ok. I'd recommend looking into some JL C3 components. I ran a set of those in my old 4th Gen and they sounded GREAT.

I put alpine components in the back seat area and they are awesome... Sounds like i have a small subwoofer and the tweeters scream. Wayyyyy better than the alpine 2-ways i have in the front, i want to find a way to fit components (tweeters) in the front door panel and use the same set there. The components were $70 for the pair on ebay.

Another tip: MAKE SURE the speaker voice coils are made from rubber instead of foam. Cheaper speakers use foam and that means everything when it comes to bass replication. Foam also tears easier under abuse.

Are you just replacing the speakers on the factory head unit and leaving it at that? Do you plan to do any other audio upgrades besides the door speakers at the same time or in the future?

Well here is the deal. I had a pair of led taillights from my gxp, so I put them on CL and this guy wants to trade for the speakers. It has the stock deck and a 10 inch sub in the rear. All the rest of the stock speakers suck, so thats why I was wondering. I have no money into the lights. Would they work good for back seat area? And don't the monsoon work off a 2ohms and 4ohms system or something?

I used to run an install shop and the monsoon stuff is not plug and play with aftermarket speakers. The front components are full range and the rear speakers in the sail panel are actually treated as subs from the factory amp. To run it full range (doing it correctly) you need to bypass the factory amp in the spare tire well. I seen tons of these amps crap out when people would just change the speakers. They'd come to me wondering why they keep blowing.

Long story short, run new wire and use an aftermarket amp. Alpine makes a nice unit called the ktp-445 which I had good results with or those tiny pdx amps. The mini Rockford stuff blows.

Agree. Hooking up new speakers to a stock monsoon amp is a total waste of cash. IMO monsoon is trash. It makes my high end Premier deck sound like a Roadmaster.
Pull the Monsoon amp, and put it on a shelf somewhere. Run new wire from your head unit to the rest of your speakers.

I was a devout fan of Pioneer for a long time, but question their quality today. Their subwoofers still seem robust, but the door speakers are lacking. I now lean more towards infinity Kappa speakers, or a good set of Clarion, just because the efficiency is there (get 90db or above), they have excellent frequency response and good power handling.

The key to speakers is try not to focus too much at brands, and look more at the numbers. I've outdone the name brands back in my car audio days because I shopped for the right specs, not for fashionable brands.
The higher the efficiency number, the more efficient the speaker is and will play "louder" with lower wattage.
