  • Who is good with wiring head units/speakers?

When we purchased the Z28 2 years ago did not have any idea it came with a alpine amp. Stupid me was not thinking, decided to rip it all out because I do not want it..forgot to realize the 4 speakers were wiring to the amplifier.

long story short, cut the wires to the two front speakers and only have the rears working.

what I want done is have this pioneer head unit taken out of the camaro, and replaced with my alpine from the green camaro. Along with the with 4 speakers.

I have rockford fosgate wiring from the green camaro that I want to use with the Z28. Put I do not know as far as wiring if they did a hack job with the wiring from factory.

Here is what I have from the green camaro to go in,

I do not know if this connector will work in the Z28? If it does, I guess it would be a real easy install, just running the wires?

Would I need a new dash plate? Or will the one holding the pioneer work fine?

Head unit came from Larry which came from I think Sean? So it would fit fine in the 98 I am sure.

The speakers I want to go in. Unsure of the size.

Kinda having a hard time following the post as to what you're asking. Are you doing this yourself or having someone else do it?

If I remember correctly the wiring harness connector should be the same on all years 93-02, so that connector should work fine, but be careful if the new car has the Monsoon system as that might not work together well if you just drop it in. Dash kits are the same for all years too IIRC. You can just leave that Alpine in that dash kit and drop it right in. Those Alpine speakers are 6.5" according to their sticker so they should fit in the factory location with plastic adapter rings or better yet build your own baffles out of MDF.

edit: Ok, those red wires look to be speaker wires going to the individiual speakers to bypass the factory amp. Just hook those up to the appropriate speakers and you're good.

It was either or, I do not like messing with electrical one bit.

so since I already have existing wires, I would just need to take out the pioneer, connect the harness with the stock one, and just run my wires to each speaker?...The plate that was installed with my alpine was actually broker..one of the tabs so going to see if the pioneer one would work.

Will have to see when I take out the head unit how complicated the previous owner will make the install..like I said..i hate electrical.

I dont have the tools to make any baffles, but I do have some mdf. In my 94 when I took them out, looks like they were just screwed in? Some sticky black goo was surrounding the speakers in the rear, had to pry them out.

mhm what type of pioneer deck? I am in need of a new cd player for my DD, the one I have works 50% of the time, literally.

OK problem, tested each speaker before I finalized the install and everything worked..once I finished putting the kick panel on I wanted to test as loud as I could..and the damn thing won't even turn on now?

Checked the fuses and everything is good..harness is plugged in,all wiring connected...wtf?

check the connection to the speaker it self, also did you run new wire from the cd player to the speaker or use the stock wiring?
