  • Subwoofer Opinions!

I need some opinions on a sub/amp setup for the Camaro. I was just going to swap out the box from the Firebird, but I would lose all access to the t-top storage area, and I can't have that. . .

Right now, in the Formula (hardtop), I have a t-top well box that allows the well cover to be closed, hiding the subs. It's got a pair of 12" Cerwin Vega subs and a 1200w Sony amp mounted underneath it. I'm going to keep the amp, but I'm thinking of using it to power ALL the car's speakers (it's a 4 channel) and a single 10" sub in the left side inner quarter panel. I'm leaning towards a rear wall amp rack, so I can still store the t-tops back there, and also not have to worry about the amp overheating.

What I'd like to know, is just how adequate a single 10" sub will be. I don't like a lot of bass, but I'd still like to have a powerful low range, the tweeters in the Camaro overpower everything else right now, I'm going to mess with the settings in the stereo a bit, but I wanted to know what people thought of the "Stealth Box" sub setup. I know it would offer a cleaner install than the massive heavy box I have now, but if it's not going to put out enough sound, I may come up with something else.

I'm also open to other suggestions as well.

I use a stealth box myself and love it. Just get a good sub that will work in a lower volume enclosre. You can make up some of that space with polyfill as well.

I also have a stealth box but I couldn't really enjoy my stereo last year due to the pos Sony Xplode head unit, but that's changing this year with an Alpine.

When it did work, it was enough bass for me. Mine's a 10" and I believe it's a Rockford sub, I forget with a Dual amp.

Just get a decent 10" like an MTX or Fosgate. Also, on the amp does it have two different filter settings? You'll need a low pass filter for the sub and no filter for the rest of the speakers won't you?

        Used to own a Firebird.

10 inch Alpine Type R. Loved it. I had 12inch though.

10 inch Type R for sure if you have the correct box.

I use to have the Alpine Type-R in 12" as well and loved them.

A 10" JL, Alpine, MTX or Boston will work great. Joel was selling his JL Audio Stealthbox a while back, not sure if he has it still...

I'll have to take a look. I'm going to be pulling the subs, box, and amp out of the Firebird in a few weeks, so I'll find out and post up when I do. I had a matching 600w amp I was going to use for the rest of the speakers, but I don't have it anymore.

Yep, my 10" MTX I have, used to have in the Balt, pounds hard. Of course, my two 12" JLs do it better...

                        I'd rather have a 12 then a 10. JL is a really clear sound.

They don't make a stealth box that will fit a 12. They do, however, make sub boxes for BOTH sides in the back that will hold 10's, so how about a pair of 10's in back? I could go with JL, if they are as nice as you guys say they are.

Like I said, I'm not looking for a competition setup or anything, just something that will help add a little bass to the system I have in the car, since honestly, it's weak.

for clear crisp bass and the best sound quality infinity kappa can't be beat. throw a 10" one in a stealth box like everyone is sayin and you are golden.

They are. Pretty much the best subs you can buy - but they're not cheap.
