  • system for altern rock

what would be the way to go for my buddy who is looking to add some bass to his grand prix? He listens mainly to alternative rock, punk rock, very little rap or country. I was thinking two tens instead of two 12's, also what about maybe just a single 10 instead? What brands are good for their money, he doesn't really want to spend more than 400 bucks on the whole thing.

Best buy has the new sony xplod 12's in a sealed box and a 1200 watt xplod amp for around $350. The price is good for the whole deal but not sure if the subs will sound good with his style of music

10s and 12s put out almost the same. I would say one good ten and one good amp, tuned properly. Oh yeah and he will spend that $400 and some if he wants to do it right and not ghetto.

my friend just got that kenwood 10 inch sub with the built in amp. For the size of the power wire on that thing, it sure does sound good. I would recommend that. I have a Rockford 300 watt mono in my car with one punch ps 12 and all i listen to is non gansta music and non country, it sounds really good with all types of music. I would recommend one of those two setups. Oh yeah i've heard alot of good things about the infinity bass link also.

if all he is looking for is "full sound" i'd say one good 10 or 12 in a sealed box with a decent amp. it'll give him a very good range of sound. my boss had one 12" JL W6 in his H2 with a really nice Alpine V12 amp...it sounded great for everything...

I've got my big honk'n box in the trunk of my car with my Kicker L7, and im looking to get rid of it so i'll have my trunk again...and im lookin at gettin one of those boxes that sit where the 10 disc player resides if your car has that option...

steer away from sony. i would go with a single 10" but a dual voice coil 10." it will be plenty powerful, im very happy with mine.

the sony setup is what i have in mine... the only thing i like about it is they dont die and hit pretty hard but i listen to mainly rock and punk and its not the best sound quality for that... some deep 10's would be better thats what i use to go with... MTX 10's are nice in a bandpass or tube box... pioneer use to make some great smaller deep subs i still have my original 8 inch pioneer bandpass speaker from when i was 16 and it still sounds great... mickey shore has a deal right now on 3 10"mtx in a box and a amp for like 400 bucks would be perfect setup i think i always thought sound quality was better with a bandpass or ported box compared to sealed not all boom...

Alpine's are great sounding as well. I love my Type-R's. Just can't wait to get them in my bird.

I would do a single 12 in the trunk, or 2 10's There are a ton of good choices soundstream makes a great sub, xplode stuff was developed for the mass merchants like wal-mart avoid sony at all costs. Alpine is good, but expensive

The ebay ones have no warranty (alpine will actually keep them if they get ahold of tehm) and best buy sucks

the only way to get a deal outta best buy is to force them to price match... they are almost as bad as ABC/Mickey shore they have a sale maybe once a month on something decent just to get you in the door...

Well with the amount of money you save by getting them off e-bay you can just buy new 1's if they blow and still be spending the same amount.

and hope it's not fake (Alpine bought over 100,000 fake products off ebay last year)

Kicker is also good for rock since that is what they were designed for (the frequency spec they gave lanzar when they were building them was for kick drums and higher)

Best buy doesn't run sales unless the manufacturer lowers the price, those ads if you watch are regular prices. ABC runs sales on stuff that's never in stock (I worked at teh one on Miller rd for about 6 months before I felt too guilty)
