  • 1997 Camaro SS with 6 speaker premium sound. Upgrading head unit with stock speakers

Anyone ever do this? I have a pioneer headunit and would like to put it in with my stock speakers. Are these like the old bose stuff where you have to rewire everything or is it more straight forward. Thanks Eric L

easiest way to replace stock radio with new head unit is to buy the adapter plug set. Its a pigtail plug that plugs into stock harness and you connect between the pioneer plug and the adapter plug. leaves all stock speakers and wire alone.
There are diagrams if you need them at www.shbox.com

just go buy the harnesses and everything is plug and play. Super Easy would only take a few minutes.

Thanks for the replys guys. Yeah, I know about the adaptor harness. But I was wondering more about factory speakers and thier compatability with an aftermarket head unit. Eric L

Yeah I dont see why there would be a problem everything should plug in find and work perfectly normal except it just might sound better I bet it will sound pretty good with an aftermarket head unit tho.

The impedance on the factory speakers are 4 ohms, a lot of the after market are the same. look at the head unit you got and see what the power rating is for 4 or 8 ohms speakers.
Generally after market are better than stock speakers in terms of frequency response.

Hey Larry, I checked it and my head unit reads 45 x 4 @ 4-8 ohms impediance. So I guess it would work, but I have always heard that the factory monsoon stuff is pretty good, so IDK.

the factory speaker don't hold much power. My suggestion is to listen to your system then go to best buy and listen to same head unit with different speakers. then make your choices.

I love my stock speakers, well besides the fact that I can actually hear them over the car. lol. They're actually one of the best speakers I've heard in a long time.
