  • Car audio project.

Well My Camaro had a jvc headunit i put in two years ago, a mtx 10" and alpine amp

I have recently decided to redo it all.
    I have since ordered
    2 12" 1200watt Kenwood w3012s
Kenwood 1800watt mono class d amp
    Kenwood 6.5in 240watt KFC-1682ie
    JVC KD-HDR50

I Wired the new door speakers into the Bose amp, was this a good or bad thing?
Also I want to do "the big 3" upgrade, can anyone give any good advice?

Another issue I am having is that when the volume is at 0 i hear a hissing sound, its reallly quiet but its not perfect.
Even when the car isnt running, also it did it with the old headunit and speakers

    Thanks

    --Double post auto merged--

Another question is where should I put the amp, can you put it behind the rear seats on a 4th gen and have it not over heat?

what ive noticed is that Buzzing or humming sound is atleast with my pioneer there was a interferance something or another thing you wire into your constant (+) power and it takes that away. the wiring the door into the bose i wouldnt say is a bad thing. but i try and only supply bass to one set of speakers/woofers. that way all the other speakers are doing the vocal and treble and all the other technological shit. and the amp is only supply the power to the speakers intended on supplying the bass. im not audio tech or anything so please dont take my words like they are gold or anything. just my two pennies lol.

and the amp.... how would you put it behind that back seat? last time i checked the back of the seat was pretty damn hard against the solid metal unless you cut into the seat. i would personally just build a small box to put the 12s right over top the rear. or ive always wanted to build a box that dropped down the trunk area sit the amp right in the middle and have a speaker in the driver side cubby hole. and a speaker in the pass side cubby hole ( have to cut the plastic) but got rid of my 4th gen and built a box for my 3rd gen lol

The blue wire from the head unit is the turn on signal for the power amp. the should be a separate + and- for power to the power amp. to find the hiss I would connect just the head unit and door speakers. and see if you have the hiss. It sounds as if you have a bad grd. Remember the + - signal wire to speakers have to be correct polarity and the - to the speakers is NOT grd. I would get rid of that bose amp and get a real power amp. you'll be much happier.
The power amp can be mounted anywhere you have unobstructed airflow to cool it. Back of rear seat where it sticks above deck would be ok if it fits.
Ok reread your original post. To understand this correctly you are installing the JVC head unit then feeding that to stock GM bose amp and then have to kenwood power anp and 12" speakers. If this is corredt get the bose out of there run the jvc to the door speakers and the rear to the power amp and 12" speakers.

If you are really concerned about getting rid of that hissing sound, something that has worked a lot for me is to relocate the ground for the head unit due to it getting hesitation from the alternator.

Yep, I have the jvc headunit with a GM harness adapter connected to the stock harness.
I was getting the hissing before i put in the new headunit or speakes.
The kenwood amp is going to be just for the subs.

How can I bypass the bose?
And the ground for the head unit is the Black wire thats part of the harness where can i change that ground to?

I was just looking, and the little amp in the door, is corroaded badly
has a bunch of green dusty stuff on it
so I want to get rid of it
I dont need door speakers putting out bass

if i was you i would run new spker wire from the new spkers to a new amp... you would be so much happier then with that bose crap i had to do that in my caddy and man was it nicer you have full control of everything

I actually ran new wire from the head unit to the bose amp, then into the kenwood speakers.
                  It sounds much much better
also I used some shrink wrap to water seal them, then I used some black rtv and sealed the amps box

Running your interior speakers of that bose amp is just fine, interior speakers dont like too much power supplied to them anyhow. As for amp placement for your subs dont mount it to your sub box! I see a lot of people doing that and all the vibrations of the amp directly on the box are not good for it, what kind of box are you running (pics?) I mounted mine on the ledge in front of the well with some really small screws and I have seen people do it with velcro as well so it doesnt move around... And are you still having that noise issue in your speakers?

Oh btw I vote Custom setup I built mine and am re-doing it soon as well but custom setups are awesome and the things you can do are unlimited! lol

OK John! looking at wire diagram and listening to what you've done, I believe your problem with the hiss is the bose amp.
                      1. its mismatched to your head unit for input.
                      2. its probably not wired completely right.
From your head unit you should have white - and tan + for left front. run that to correct speaker terminals. usually larger speaker terminal is the +
from your head unit you should have white- and lt green + for right front speaker.
having the bose amp in there is only causing a mismatch. the JVC head unit is made to drive those speakers.
from the GM stock head unit there was also a separate shield wire connection.
this went through the bose amp and was filtered before connecting to grd.
black wire on bose is ground
                      Orange is +12v power
there was an orange wire from fuse #4 to supply power to bose units.
this went through a relay and was picked by a pink wire from GM head unit.
I am letting you know about the relay and power because its possible that bose is not even turned on and causing problem.
there is also a rear bose amp this drives the sail panel and rear speakers.
Rear speaker wire code is green/white speaker common or -
left + brown. right + is dark blue. then separete shield.
same orange and black for power.

So your choice would be leave bose and recheck the way its wired. or get it out of there and connect the way the JVC is meant to be connected.
                      Sorry for the lengthy post.

Edit: as i read through the post it hit me, a lot of people will use single wire sheild so common and shield are the same. the bose is not set up this way and could give you the hiss. especially since you had it in your old head unit.

I dont have the box yet, but its one off eaby that fits where the ttops go, if your car came with t tops

I bypassed the amp yesterday using it old wire made no difference in the hissing
I cut the wire open and about 5 feet of it was full of green corosion, so I ran new wires to and from the bose
No more hissing ill get a vid for everyone in a few, it sound really nice, even without having my subs in yet

But I get what you mean, the bose amps were to make up for the lesser powered headunit, now this ehadunit i have now has enough power to drive the speakers
I will take the amps out in a little while

Headunits dont push any amount of good RMS wattage to interior speakers. Your JVC headunit is pushing 12-15 volts max to your speakers, I dont know for sure but I bet your bose amp is pushing more then that. For best sound quality I would pick up a nice 4 channel amp (low wattage) like a 250 or 300 watt and run your interiors off of that. Putting an amp on your speakers will get the best quality sound out of them IMO. But i'd love to see your entire setup when you get it all together I am defiantly a car audio guy, I had my camaro pretty well wired and hooked up. Changing it up now but I was really happy with the setup I had over the summer with my speakers subs and amps.
