  • Suggestions on head units

Looking for 2 new CD/MP3 players. Right now I've got a CD Player and one that is a CD/MP3 player. Both of which are JVC so it made it super easy to transfer from the GrandmaLS to Trans Am and when one went from DD to parked and vice versa. I don't need one for the TA until spring but I do need to get one for the explorer pretty soon. 1. Radio sucks and 2. the factory 6 disc cant read a burned CD for shit. I've had some great luck with my last 3 (all are JVC's) and would like to stick with them, especially in the TA but what have you guys had good luck with? I'd try something new in the Explorer you guys have had something orgasmic. lol Any suggestions? My required specs are....

-Volume knob that spins (no up and down buttons)
-CD that inserts BEHIND the face place. To me the slot in the faceplate just looks cheap.
-Numbered buttons for preset radio stations. As dumb as it sounds I've seen a lot of radios lately that don't have the buttons for preset FM stations
    -MP3/WMA capability.

Tom here is a really good car audio site: www.sonicelectronix.com

Heres the one I want for my car:

                    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...DC-MP638U.html or a different model: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...DC-MP738U.html

I have this in my car now and love it, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...e+CDA-105.html

But I want to switch back to one of those kenwood models because I love kendwood HU but look around on that site you can not beat their prices, plus it comes with everything you need to install it into your car too. I have bought many things from them with no problems as well.

I'm happy with my Alpine CDA-9885 the stock monsoon was trash I have no idea why people like them. And ripped out all the speaks and replaced them with all Infinity speakers and installed a rockford amp. It need a little bass so next year i'm installing a 10' rockford sub in the left corner of the trunk.

I am a Pioneer Premier Fan. Always have been, and so far..staying that way.
(Except if I can EVER afford a Nakamichi CD-700, then I would switch)
I purchased a couple of High end 24bit DAC Kenwood Excelon units - and sold them both due to the horrid sound quality.
My brother in law has an Alpine, which sounded fairly good, but the specs for distortion were more than I would have liked to see.

I purchased a DEH-P835R for my 96 TA, and with a Myrad of goodies, clean looks, and easy to access featuers, it was simply amazing.
Recently I purchased a Premier DEH-P600UB and again was pleased at its versatility and sound quality. I don't like what they've done for ease of use though.
Way too many menus.... easy to distract a driver. I DO like the USB feature. Plug in the 8GB flash memory drive and go.
My DEH-P77DH is going 9 years strong in my GMC. Its still crystal clear, can play MP3's and has a 3 band EQ with Pre-outs. ROCKS my truck with good headroom.

I would visit your local shops, get a demo of several units you are considering, and then choose based on the features you want and sound quality.

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-P3100DVD in my car when I was home in January. Great unit so far, but it required some ingenuity to make it fit. . . Had to make my own brackets and cut the stock bezel. Lots of features, only thing I don't like is that it doesn't currently support Navigation, but I think Pioneer is going to release an add-on unit soon that should solve that problem. I'll be picking that and the Bluetooth add-on adaptor in the future. Best part is that you can upload different images to use as your background. Very cool unit, pretty easy to use. USB and iPod support out of the box, DVD player, touchscreen, and I only paid about $400 for it brand new at Best Buy. Could have gotten one even cheaper if I had bought one used or shopped around a bit, but I'm still pretty happy with it.
