  • Trouble w/ Amp/Sub Wiring

Well, I have a stealthbox, sony xplod class d amp, and a MA audio 12'' DVC sub. Monsoon System.

    Well I have 2 problems:
1st: I could not get any type of REM to work w/ the monsoon system, I tried wiring to the pinkish wire off my power antenna and it seems to turn on when the car turns on but doesn't turn off.

2nd: My setup worked when we first hooked it up and it was sounding amazing. We put my interior back together and I go no sub activity. It turns out it is blowing fuses now. Blows the fuse on the power cord (30A) and before, you hear some crackling in the sub.

    Also, check my wiring:
    Power cable off battery, fused.
Ground off one of the bolts under the rear panels (using copper power wire)
Rem (Not working, currently off of the pink wire to antenna)

Sub is DVC 4 ohm, I got it run in parallel so the amp see 2ohm load

Is it possible I blew the sub or something? My amp is rated at 600watts RMS @ 2ohms. The sub's listing at ma audios site says:
    • 300W/350W Rms
    • 600W/700W Max (Maybe i gave it too much juice?)

I tried wiring an RCA line off of my rear speaker and that didnt work, Also tried wiring high level outputs from my amp input.
I eventually went off my rear speaker amp inputs.
    Used this:
Light Blue............Right Rear Speaker - connected to Right - on amp
Dark Blue.............Right Rear Speaker + connected to Right + on amp
Yellow................Left Rear Speaker - connected to Left - on amp
Brown.................Left Rear Speaker + connected to Left + on amp

I am puzzled why it worked excellent earlier and now it wont.

The remote wire is almost always a blue wire with or without a white stripe, so I don't know about this pink wire you speak of. Most aftermarket decks clearly label the remote wire. Do you have an aftermarket deck? I'm wondering why you're wiring everything off of the rear speaker amp.

I highly doubt you blew your sub, it really sounds like your fuse is too low of an amperage. Did you use a wire kit for this install? I've done a couple now and I had crackling and eventually a blown fuse on one system...turns out I had a 60A fuse when the Sony amp preferred 80A. (Most kits skimp on the fuses). Under lower loads the 60A was fine, but under higher ones quality decreased and finally it blew.

you need to be wired to the speakers by the rear seat. the hatch speakers are highs and won't work very well(I found out the hard way)
My remote wire is hooked up at the antenna, and works great.
I have never had an amp fuse smaller than 50 amps.

just to clarify, the fuse I'm talking about is the one for the battery power line, not the ones on the amplifier itself.

sounds like your ground wire is touching the power then.. hopefully on the outside of the amp... because if its on the inside you did kill it... they always put the wires to damn close... first make sure the ground and posative wire on the amp arnt touching... second check the place were you grounded the amp and make sure you didnt hit any power lines there... if that doesnt work... and you dont have a warranty still on it try taking the amp apart and checking were the ground and posative connect underneath the cover... really if it is blown i would say upgrade to the 1200 sony... really nice amp same thing as yours times two... opinions vary some people say get an amp bigger than the speakers so you can make them sound perfect... some say a speaker bigger than the amp so you dont blow it... i dont know its up to you i try to match them dead on... but get rid of the high imput for sure... they make an adapter were you tap into the stock speaker harness and it changes over to RC cables instead of the plain direct wire like the high imput has.... the rca will sound a little nicer... i acctually have an adapter lying around if you need it but its only like 12 bucks at wallmart for the bosh one... but anyway if you dont have the wires touching on the amp or the ground wire then trace the power all the way from the battery back to the amp might have pinched it between metal and grounded it out...

the monsoon is what a 6 or 8 speaker system... your gonna wanna tap into the set of middle ones eaither way like he said the rears are highs the door and back seat should be more mid to low range... thats if the monsoon is setup that way... it could just be the same range setting all around with different style speakers...

but now that you said once you put it back together it stopped working... im gonna bet you did pinch that power wire somewere along the line...

as for the remote wire you were right to use the pink one... dont know why it would be messing up

here is a link to your wire diagram so you know what your cutting into
            http://home.ptd.net/~chrispav/transam4stereo.html

might as well tap inot the stock subwoofer feed lines for your signal

30 amps is too low for a main feed line, you will draw about 40 amps at peaks.Hooking up to a factory headunit can be a pain, do you have a wiring diagram to be sure you have teh right wiree (many times there are 2 very similar wires in teh harness)

I aggree with what he said. I'm not a fan of Sony Xplod's though. I'm a Kenwood and Alpine fan myself, but ya check your wires.

Sounds to me like you got one of those cheap wiring kits from like meijer or something. I spent over 200 on both wiring kits for my amp. All rockford (sub, amps, wiring ktis, and 6x9s) besides the shitty pioneer 3 way 4x6s in the front. I would say invest in a better wiring kit. And personally I hate the two brands your using. Kicker and rockford are by far the best IMO.

Depends of your going for SPL or SQ. Kicker and Rockford are more for SPL. If you want some SQ go for JL Audio's and Alpines.

Im not into db drag or competition, just want a little hit down low. I don't really want to invest much into a stereo. I got my amp for free (gift certificate), built my own box, and got the sub cheap too.

If your not looking for huge BOOM, look for SQ. (Sound Quality)

SQ go with some high end stuff (pioneer and alpine are not true high end) They make decent stuff, but it is overpriced you can get teh same quality from db drive powerbass or soundstream. Rockford also makes a good sub for both sq and spl (they actually build theirs unlike alpine and pioneer who buy them from someone else)
