Alright guys. Ben and I have decided to take the final leap into the kingdom of Redneckery. . . We are both installing CB radios in our F-Bodies, for cruises, messing with truckers, and whatever else we want to do. I was thinking that some other people might be interested in doing this, and I wanted to know who would be willing to install one in their car before the meet and greet. Anybody? Mine doesn't change the exterior appearance of my car, as I have the 6 foot "buggy whip" antenna lying horizontally beneath the back glass. . .

CB radios are not redneck. anyone who thinks so is behind the times... and i will slap them.
im getting one for my truck, a bunch of us up here at college are either getting them or already have one.
I dont understand where or why they got their redneck stigma and went out of style. Nothing ever replaced them, they just disappeared. besides, its much easier to talk over a CB on a road trip than make cell phone calls non-stop, end of discussion.-Joel

I agree with you completely!!! I love CB radios, they are a great device for communicating with others, and you can talk to people you don't even know without having to worry about them stalking you! I have a short 3 ft antenna with a magnetic base mounted next to my subwoofers and below the hatch now, I ditched the 6 footer. I get much better reception and a better broadcast with it. Ben is getting my old one with the 6 ft whip antenna, so I can't wait to see that baby in his firechicken. . . .Nick H.

I have a Cobra, model 19 LTD II, but I'm giving Ben my old (REALLY OLD. . . ) GE 3-5085B model. They both work great. I got the cobra off of a friend for $15, the antennas both cost me about $25 used, and the GE was $5 at a garage sale. If you want a deal, you can probably pick up a whole rig, CB, all wiring, mounts, and an antenna really cheap on EBay.Nick H.

I do that too, but I was looking for a more convenient, semi-permanently mounted solution with a longer range. 2-way radios use batteries, and I wanted something that was more convenient than having to recharge or replace batteries.Nick H.

Anybody have or plan to install a CB in their ride? I installed mine yesterday, now I need to get a decent antenna. I was thinking about a through-glass mount one, the kind that sticks to the inside and outside of the glass. Do those work well? I'm having some problems with the inside mount of the buggy-whip 6-footer. Let me know if you know about any better antennas that will look either like a cell phone antenna or an interior mount antenna.Nick H.

no, i wont be using that ultra-ghey light up antenna. I want it for the light up face to match everything else in my trucks interior. I also want it because its the lowest model with the PA system... so i can dictate to people muahaha-Joel

lol.. yall are funny..
umm the through the glass mounts don't work so well...
if anyone is interested i have 2 radios and a power mic. uniden pcwt56 (100 bucks) and a cobra 29 ltd. (bout 600 bucks) the uniden was only used for about 2 to 3 months.. and the 29 is was in my semi for the last two years.. just got it back from the shop not too long before i went to florida.. has about 800 bucks worth of stuff done to it. ( reverb, roger beep, and a very expensive power booster) all my good antena's were stolen, so anything i have now i will not sell.. cause it wouldn't be worth it.
i also have a highgear power mic with overlay for about 200 bucks..
on the pricey side of things, i also have a setup for a truck (semi, but could also be used in a car) at a steal for 1700...
cbs are fun.. but don't mess with truckers.. 2 things.. without trucking, america stops.. and if you have it, a truck brought it to you.

I don't think a FRS/GMRS radio can communicate with a CB. . . Completely different frequencies. I think it would just be easier to have both. That's what I'm gonna do. Any ideas on a stealth-mount antenna yet guys?Nick H.

Normal handhelds won't talk to a CB but I do have a handheld CB which is just a little version of a car-borne one.
I'm putting a CB on whatever truck I get my hands on. I have an 8-foot stainless steel whip bumper mounted antenna all lined up. I'll boost my signal and be all set.
Truckers are awesome to talk to, those guys have some interesting stuff to say.
