  • Monsoon... Means what to me?

Okay so my car is out of the garage for the first time in over 6 months!!! . While me and Nick went for a short cruise I noticed my stereo says monsoon on it. What does that mean to me? What benefits and problems do I face with it??

lmao, and you've had your car how long? Monsoon is just a upgraded stock stereo system. All the cars I have seen with them sound great.

And another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

Yeah I drove the car home to my gf's house and just after that it got put into the pole barn. Sweet. If I chose to upgrade head units will I have any problems?

I know mine didn't sound that great, and I'm told you have to swap it all over if you upgrade head units. However only thing I can say is, mine doesn't sound much better with the aftermarket unit.

I have monsoon in my car and it's nice, but I blown one of my speakers and I am thinkin of just replacing some of the speakers in the car this summer whenever I get some cash. But I have not had any problems with them until i blown my speaker. But the sound will be better if u upgrade the head unit.

If you decide to switch them all out I'll buy your old ones for spares! . Oh and Ang, I have this idea!!! What if I got the w68 kit for the '98-02 and had a body shop install / modify it to fit my car. I mean essentially its the same thing right?

umm the front pices are differnt I think to the ones for your car's body style, But the side and rear should be the same. If u can find a 98-02 W68 kit for a good deal get it and if the body shop guy has to "modify" anything it might cost u more. Just food for thought.....

most Aftermarket H/U's only have 4 channels. your stock readio powers 4 door speakers. 2 pillar speakers and 4 rear speakers if im not mistaken.
which means 10 channels. or its 2 doors 2 pillars and 4 rears. which is 8 channels. aftermarket will power the doors and hte rears or the two pillars depending on how you wire it.

So does that mean the monsoon is better than aftermarket?

I know that the BOSE stereo you have to re-wire the whole car if you change head units...we had to do it to my buddy's old 96 Z28... i don't think you have to re-wire all the speakers if you change the head unit on a monsoon equiped car....where's steve when we need him lol?

monsoon means good for stock but a pain to upgrade. Since it is factory amplified at 2 ohms the aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms it prolly wont sound as good. I rewired my whole car and used a 4 channel amp sounds sooo good but it is a ton of money to do that.
