Well since adding the head unit, and the sub and amp, I've really been wanting to get some new 6.5's for the car. I'm looking at getting either some coaxials or some components but i wanted to know what some of you with components think. I mean is the difference between the two amazing or is it mediocre. As of now i'm looking either at 2 sets of alpine components type r's or looking at two sets of CDT components. I have a ton of bass so i'm not worried about that, i just want to bring out the midrang and the highs. I'm looking for high quality sound. Well if anyone has any sugestions they are greatly appreciated. I've got about 300 to spend on speakers.

I've just got a pair of Pioneer 6.5" 3-way components in my doors and side panels, I'm in the same boat you are, I've got enough bass, I just wanted to bring out the mids and highs. . . My setup is right where I want it, I've got the stock tweeters in the doors and hatch area, some mid-high Rockfords in the hatch area, and the pioneers up front. Sounds great! I'm running 1200 watts through a pair of Cerwin Vega 12's and a Pioneer 8" Bass Cannon.Nick H.

I got the Alpine Type-R component system all hooked up in my car last week. It made a huge difference! I think it sounds really good and have gotten compliments on them from a few people.sigpic

schuby87 or anyone with components... where did you mount the tweeter, i've heard that it has to be within a certain distance of the woofer, and also you want them in line but did not know how truthful this was. I think i'm going to go component i just want to make sure before i cut up my doors and side pannels.sigpic

I left the stock tweeters alone. . . I'll be replacing the 4 tweeters soon, however, since the whole system is going to be rewired when I get the carPC finished. 1800 watt system running through a Windows XP system with a 5 channel audio card and two Sony amplifiers. Do you want pics of where my speakers are? I think Camaros are different, but you could always swap in some Firebird door panels, just make sure you get the ones from a 10-speaker car.Nick H.

Tweeters need to be high up. Like, around the top of the door panel is ideal.Originally posted by cobalt camaro View Postschuby87 or anyone with components... where did you mount the tweeter, i've heard that it has to be within a certain distance of the woofer, and also you want them in line but did not know how truthful this was. Basically, whatever looks good, and isn't pointed towards your knees (stock) - wants to be more towards your head.Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

yea see camaro's are different from firebirds because they had no tweeter locations. Which i guess is good if they were just pointed at your knees like stated. I saw sman's tweeter location and it actually looked pretty good, but just wanted to get your guy's opinion.93formulalt1 your not running a cd player then, just a computer with rca outputs to your amps. I bet that would make it sound amaizing, my computers sound output is really good which is why i want to make my car's sound better. I listen to my computer and it sounds perfect, and then i go into my car and it's just not the same.sigpic

Mine are in the stock location. I think it would sound weird if you had the tweeter mounter high and the speaker down low, your ears would pick up the highs too much. Its not pointed at my knee, but its not exactly pointed straight up either.

There's two school's of thought. Some argue that the tweeter needs to be close to the woofer for proper sound staging and timing. Others argue that you want the tweeters up high so you can hear the frequencies better and not have them be muffled by your legs or other items in the way between where they are mounted and your ears. I've seen people cut holes in the door panel above the woofer and mount the tweeter there. I've also seen them mounted in a custom pod where the little triangle is at the top front edge of the door where the outside mirrors mount. Some people mount them in the A pillars. I haven't heard any good setups in a Camaro in a while. I have Infinity coaxes in my doors with the tweets angled up but I'm just running them off the head unit and they don't put out much sound as compared to when I had them on a 35x2 amp in my Sonoma. It is possible to get great sound out of coaxes. They're cheaper than components and you don't have to drill or make a pod for the tweets in a Camaro.

GETGONE that's my exact problem, don't really want to make wholes in the pannels but at the same time i want to have excellent sound. As far as the tweeter goes i did some research and a couple reputable speaker maufacutrers say you don't want the tweeter more than a foot away from the woofer and 8 inches is usually pretty nominal. I just wish that the screens for the tweeters looked the same as the stock speaker screens on the doors. I like stuff to match and when it doesn't it bugs the crap out of me. And whether i get components or coaxials i'm going to run 50 or 75 at each speaker to really get the sound out of them.sigpic
