It was great driving with the LCD in the car, even if it's not functional right now.

Worked on the internals of the carPC today. My dad and I decided to use peg board because ... well, it was the only "sturdy" flat material we could find to use that we had lying around the basement. So, we set to work creating the 1st tier of the carPC -- an Opus power supply and my fullsize hard drive make up the 1st tier. The 2nd tier will be the motherboard. The last picture is me holding the screws and nylon spacers that we're going to use to hold the motherboard about two inches above the 1st tier -- about the equivalent space between the hard drive and motherboard as the dark grey foam that's currently in the pics. When it's finished, it will probably only be the pinkish foam that's in the pic, but we might not even use that either.

More progress was done today -- it's 95% ready for install. I have to cut one of the floppy drive plugs to get a 12v source out of it, and then I need to cut a section out of the monitor bezel because it hits against the motherboard. Pretty minor stuff.

I also found a wireless-B card that I had in an old laptop. It's not the fastest, but it'll work for transfering files and what not while the car is in the garage.

My dad wasn't too happy with the two stands that he rigged with hard drive rails, but I think it's just one more example of how we took something lying around and built one bad ass stand for the carPC's internals.

You make that shit look easy.

Seriously, good work man. I can't wait to see it at the M&G.

Very nice job!! Oh, and Kyle, this is the part you WON'T see at the Meet and Greet. . . lol It will be hidden in the dash! And Meissen, I was thinking of doing something similar, but I actually happened upon an HP desktop computer that would be the perfect size to put under the passenger seat. . . So we will be doing things differently in that aspect! lol

Great work, I can't wait to see it all installed and working at the M&G!

Well, I decided to go legit for this install. I saw a new version of iGuidance GPS software was released, so I took the plunge and bought it. Requested it be shipped 2 Day Air, so I'm -hoping- that if they process it Tuesday morning and send it out, it should be there by Friday. Meanwhile, I'm also going to have to go buy a new USB GPS mouse because Bailey chewed the GPS cord up and now the GPS mouse doesn't work anymore. Soooo... I have a fully functional PC that currently has no audio capabilities (maybe that will be finished tomorrow?) and I have no GPS functionality.

I hear that. . . I have a fully functioning CarPC with audio and GPS capabilities, but it's not driveable. . . I'm starting to doubt whether I'll make it to the Meet & Greet at this point. . . No cash to buy the new alternator, so it's not looking good. . .
Maybe I'll get my component speakers wired to the amp and ditch the stereo headunit this week . . . I've been working 80 hour work weeks, so I haven't made much progress on my setup.

Sucks about the GPS Mouse, I like the Microsoft one, because the only cord it uses is a standard USB cord. Pretty cool.

                      Can't wait to see it!!!!

                      • The carPC is like 99% finished. My dad's going to finish some stuff on it today while I'm at work and school. The audio works 100%, we just need to get the CarPC bezel to fit 100% perfectly, it sticks out in one corner for some reason. Once that's done, we're golden.

Here's some pics of the internals.
