Well, it's official. I have to find a new spot for my HVAC because the new screen will only work if I get rid of the HVAC. I had a feeling that was going to be the case.

Anyway, I spent some time today to take apart the new screen when I got home from woodward. It was amazingly simple to take apart, so now I just have the faceplate to worry about molding in.

Yeah, supposedly he did that without having to splice any wires or the vacuum tubes. I don't really believe it, in all honesty, but I'll try it. If it doesn't work, I'll shove it in the glovebox.

Yeah, too bad it's not all electric, then you could put the controls on the carPC.

Then again, that's why iDrive sucks.

                    http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gene...-firebird.html

I think thats the one, but I think its pretty deep in it. but in just reviewing it, im sure your well aware, since there are pictures of your car in the second post, lol.

I actually thought he said the only thing he had to do was extend the cables, the vacuum and electrical was long enough. But I dont remember.

Thanks for the link, now I want a 10" screen! lol j/k I saw the install that Bernhard did in his Firebird using the 10.4" widescreen, that's a REALLY clean install. I also saw some guys running full sized towers in their Spare Tire storage area! That's ridiculous!

That screen looks to be the right size, B! I think it's going to look really good when you finish it up!

Yeah, I'm happy with the size. I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I plan to try out.

                          Well, here's some progress pictures.

The first two pics are after my dad took the dremel to the bezel to cut out the size of the screen for me. He did a great job.

And here's a few pics of the carPC's screen with bondo hair drying. I used the bondohair to fill in so it'd be even. Next I'll be using regular bondo to really smooth it out once I take the dremel to it to sand it down. It's finally coming along!

Looks great Brian. Question for you of a project i was thinking on......

I am looking to do something similar but not in my car. I'd like to place a monitor in the same spot you did, but i want it to be used strictly for navigation. Any idea how hard this would be to do or expensive? Thanks!
