  • Changing monsoon, help pick out speakers

I went home and realized exactly how bad the monsoon sounded. It didn't used to sound that bad so im pretty confident something is blown.

So it needs to go. also, it never gave a clean bass signal to my subs.

Goals: clean loud sound without spending tons of money. It can be done and I know this. I don't need competition level stuff. I need to finish my nitrous setup so

So far I have a class D amp with 2 jl audio 12w3-d6's.

I have a 200$ gift certificate for bestbuy so I think that I will get a 4x50 alpine headunit from there with whatever features I desire.

In addition, I plan on keeping the monsoon amp as it is regarded as being decent and itll save a lot of money.

I need some help picking out speakers for my doors and possibly my pillars.

The sail panels will get 45-50 rms and the doors will get 23-30 watt rms.

btw, i got an older 4x40 watt alpine headunit and some infinity kappas, some crunch midwoofers in the sail panel, it is just slightly underpowered for my likes. Maybe one more notch of volume will do the trick.

Pioneers are decent as well (I have those in my car, and they sound great).

If a/d/s was still around, I'd recommend them.

        MB Quarts are excellent, Infinity...

Why would you want to keep the crap Monsuck amp? If you're gonna build a system bypass it entirely. I just replaced my blown front speakers in my car with some Infinity Kappa's I had from my Sonoma. I wired the front speakers direct to my JVC headunit since the Monsuck setup has the tweets running off the deck and the mids running off the Monsuck amp and they're rated at 2 ohm. You put 4 or 8 ohm speakers in there and it's gonna cut your power in half going to them. I replaced the rear hatch speakers with the 4x6 plate mount Infinity's I had. I left the sail panel mid bass speakers in and the rears are running off the Monsuck amp. The hatch speakers are 4 ohm in the stock system as are my Inifinity's. It sounds decent and it's louder now but still doesn't have the punch I want. When I get money I'm going to get a stealth box and 10" sub and run that off my MTX amp and then use my Sony 35x2 to power the front door speakers. That's the setup I had in my Sonoma and it sounded good for a budget system.

What I'd really like to do is replace the sail speakers with a matching set of speakers to what I have in the doors and then run a 4 channel amp for them then a seperate amp for the sub and ditch the hatch speakers all together.

I'm with rolo, Infinitys are very clear and have great highs, but often will leave something desired in the low range. My friend had alpine type-r 6.5s all around in his grand prix and it sounded great, had great bass and good highs and mids. Don't know what your budget it is, but i would say go with type r's or see if there are any deals on JL audio 6.5's

I went to Best Buy and listened to the speakers that they had available for my car and went with Infinity speakers and tweeters up front and Sony speakers in the sail panels. The car had an MTX amp and I kept that and also put in two 10" Kicker subs. I like to hear all the highs, lows, and midrange in my music and not just loud thumping bass from the subs. I really like my setup.

I have the monsoon system, only thing I changed was the door speakers. Infinity kappas are what I used, VERY clear, I myself love them.
