  • Need advice for my new stereo setup

Just as the title says. I would like some opinions / insight / experiences on the possible setup going in my car (97' Z28 coupe) this April. None of my choices are set in stone and I have yet to order any parts. I like to research the heck out of anything before I spend my money on it. The focus for this setup is more based on clean sounding then just loud. Just looking for solid choices without breaking the bank.

Front doors and sail panels - Infinity Kappa 63.7i

Amps - Kicker ZX350.4 (for the Kappa's) and Kicker ZX450.2 or ZX550.2 (bridged for the sub)

Subwoofer - I'm not sure on the subwoofer yet. Its going to be a single 10" in a stealth box I'm going to build. I want it to be in the 400-600 watt RMS range with more emphasis on the sound quality. I know the JL audio 10W6 or 10W7 would be my best choices but I'm not sure I want to spend that much on the subwoofer. Would an 10" Alpine Type-R be a solid choice for a budget priced sub?

What should I do with the 4" speakers in the hatch? Most of my friends said I should just pull them.

Thanks for your time and any comments or feedback

I agree with the Alpine Type-R subs. I use to have 2 12's and loved them.

              Thanks for the feedback everyone.

What should I do with the 4" speakers in the hatch? Would anyone in the front two seats even notice they were gone?

I unplugged mine for a while because they rattled too much, but then i plugged them back in and didnt notice much of a difference, the panels on our cars all rattle too much lol

If you're doing coaxes in the doors and sails you don't need the rear hatch speakers for rear fill. With the factory setup with the subs in the sails the rear speakers are used for rear fill sound. The early non-monsoon 4th gens didn't even have rear hatch speakers. If you really wanted you could find a set of plastics that matched your interior so you don't have useless holes/speaker grills in the back.
