  • I need some sound system help please.

I just have a few questions Im hoping some of you guys can answer.

Right now I have 2 pioneer class D mono block amps.

They are rated for 400 watts RMS 800 watts peak X1 @ 2 ohms

I had 2 12" Coustic CF1244 4 Ohm DVC subs. Same wattage rating as the amps.

One of the subs blew and Im looking to get a new set of subs in the near future.

So, What are the benifits of DVC over SVC?

Did I buy the right wattage subs for my amps?

Ive been thinking about going with elemental designs for new subs, anybody ever use them?

What would be the best way to wire up my subs the have the circuit running at 2 ohms?

how old are teh amps? Wattage before last year could be a joke. Coustic subs are not that great really, dvc will make the amp run at 2ohms or 8 ohms on each sub (since you have 2 of each) making the amp put out more power I tend to run dvs if I want more bass output, if I want sound quality I run svc (the amp will play a little cleaner) haven't been hearing much about the elemental stuff, even from other dealers so I'm no help there. You may want to check out the Soundstream, or the Critical mass stuff (the SS12 is one of the best 12's made) if wanting cheap but decent I also have had very good luck with crunch (same as hifonics, mbquart, and autotek)

I think the amps are about 2 years old, why do you say the wattage could be a joke? I would be fairly surprized to find out pioneer was lying about wattage ratings, thats something I would expect from legacy or Pyle.

Can you give me a little more info about the SS12's? It doesnt say if they are DVC or SVC or what ohm the VC are ( I need 4 ohm if they are DVC, SVC Im not sure about) and what ounce magnet?

Also How are the Directed subs ( SX12D4)?

which do you prefer the Critical mass SS12's or the Soundstream T5-12?

there wasn't a standard until last year, pioneer rated theirs at 1 hz and 16 volts as did most mid level companies (high end ones like zapco used to go a bit low) now they have a standard they use and are pretty close. I prefer the critical mass, but I am putting soundstream in the gp

directed subs have been decent, they seem to be using the orion ones (they bought orion) the ss12 is a single 2 ohm vc they don't list the magnet weight as it really doesn't tell much with todays magnets (some companies are adding a bunch of other metals to make theirs seem heavy) also elemental designs never answered my email, or phone message, that makes me a little leery of them
