Alright, Jen got in the passenger seat of the 'bird today, closed the door, and when we got to where we were going, the door wouldn't open. I have the door panel tore about halfway off now, and the latch appears to be working properly, but it won't open the door still. I can't take the door panel all the way off without opening the door, and I can't get the door to open for the life of me. Is there any way to get the door to open? I have another latch that will bolt right up, so I just need to get the door to open now so I can change the latch. I have no idea how to get the door open, so ANY input would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

If the handle is pulling the rod that goes to the latch, I'm not sure what to do. However if the handle isn't pulling the rod you might be able to get the door panel off enough to reach in there and pull the rod and get it to pop. -
Yes, the handle is pushing the rod down, but it feels like the latch is stuck in the locked position, even though the lock lever, power locks, and key lock are all working. There is no resistance in the handle at all.Nick H.

Screw it, weld the doors shut, paint a bit 01 on the doors and use the windows as the main source on entry and exit.
Sorry, no real useful advice that will end well for the poor car.
If you can get a hand in the door panel, all I could think is just soaking it with penetrating fluid.
I thought on the 3rd gens, the level of the door lock mechanism was one solid piece, so if it moved down, it would definitely open.

Yeah. I disconnected the exterior door handle at the handle so I could try it manually, but that didn't work either. I've got a couple of ideas, but I've got some running to do, and then I'm heading home to try them. If I don't get it within the next hour or so, I'll try to get to a computer. Hey Eric, FYI it's a 4th gen.
You may have to destroy part of the door panel to get in there but only thing I can think of is you gotta get your hand down on the actual latch and try to trip it that way. but that may not be the best advice, I've never had one that broke like that.Comment

If there's no resistance at all, it sounds like the door isn't unlocked. Check to make sure the door isn't still locked, honestly it happens.- Brian Meissen

Tried it, I have the panel out enough so I can reach in there, I sprayed it with WD40, and it still isn't working. I think I'm screwed. . . lol I'll get it figured out eventually. Did you remove the little black piece from the rod to make sure it wasn't hung? Mine does it every now and then and I have to manually take it apart and pull the rod to the unlocked position.- Brian Meissen
